More than just "sea stories" Apr 20, 2008
By S. Wann
"Steve Wann"
As both a sailor and a proofreader, I often get asked to look at fellow sailors' writings. Most follow the vein of "We sailed to X, we did Y, we drank Z amount of liquor..." Mr. Martel's writing is not "sea adventures" even though it is often based around sailing to, from, or in various places; rather his writing deals far more with people and their responses to situations. He has a way with words and a wonderful and somewhat misanthropic sense of humor. I look forward to reading more from him.

A fine set of tales, mostly salty Apr 02, 2008
By Christopher J. Gait A very enjoyable collection of short stories. Even in the tales that aren't about the sea you can hear breakers not far away.
Good reading for New Englanders (like me) who miss home, as well the temporarily landlocked (also like me) who miss the sea.

A Good Read Apr 08, 2008
By Chris M A great collection of short stories with lots of New England flavor. A little something for everyone. You'll get a belly laugh out of a few, and be charmed by the author's clever, but honest prose.Tales from a Gimbaled Wrist.

words of wit and wisdom from a fine writer May 06, 2008
By james browne Once i stared reading this book i couldnt put it down. Mike has a way with words that bring you right along with him on his adventures. The story "struck by lightning" was one of my favorites. I would like to say that this book is a must read by sailors and non sailors alike. Having been a sailor myself since childhood all i can say is, well done.
