Tales from the Tall Trees

Tales from the Tall Trees recounts the journey of the Hatchet family from their beginnings in the Dust Bowl of the mid 1930's, through their venture into falling timber in the northern California Redwoods; then beyond, when the family slowly splinters apart, until they barely seem to know one another, and aren't sure they even want to anymore. The story is told through the eyes of Carrie Rose, the last of about thirty Hatchet cousins, as she struggles to find her roots and values through a veritable mind-field of neglect, abuse, and molestation. Somehow she safely emerges on the other side, cautious, but intact, only to be sucked back in one last time to her now aging stepmother's web of violence, lies and economic ruin.
