5A true recipe for healing  Apr 16, 2009
By Glen Roethel "positive music singer-songwriter"
"The 8 Voyages of NEP" is a living parable told by Penny Nichols - an active and extraordinary teacher, songwriter and vocalist - in the context of her own real-life journey. It reads like personal journal of her experiences, feelings and attitude through her cancer treatment, and provides a workshop-like guide to anyone faced with such an urgent need for healing. I am struck at once by her candor, humor, grace and good spirit, and then again by her bighearted gift of beautiful songs on the included CD, which deeply enhance the sweet encouragement within the pages. It's a fast read, a riveting account with a payoff of hope. And the songs..."In The Pumpkin Field," "Grist For The Mill," "The Air We Breathe..." and more -- all unforgettable! Penny's enchanting voice delivers beautiful masterwork stories to transport you right into Nep's playful, serious, joyful and insightful reflections on life. My wife and I are still purchasing and gifting copies of this amazing book/CD, and I'm certain you will do the same. And you don't have to be physically unwell to love the whole package -- its value holds up on every level. Get it today if you ever needed a good recipe for healing, and buy an extra copy to give -- you have a friend who needs it right now.

5A Gift for Healing  Apr 06, 2009
By Rebecca Troon
This book is entertaining and inspiring, and the CD gorgeous! As a cancer survivor, I related to so much of Penny's story, and loved how she told it in so many layers. The CD is beautifully done. The music and Penny's singing so beautiful it made me cry. Every song is a winner, and that's rare on a CD. The music is for anyone, but the package is the ultimate healing gift for a friend with cancer. I highly recommend this book and CD set.

5A beautiful, uplifting story told in a unique way  Apr 04, 2009
By P. Lamanna
Penny Nichols' The 8 Voyages of Nep is a narrative "illustrated" with photographs, watercolor paintings, and songs via an included CD. It recounts, in allegorical language, her journey through diagnosis and treatment (so far successful) for breast cancer. Although I'm not a cancer survivor myself(yet), I believe this book would be very helpful to cancer survivors in its detailed explorations of her internal struggles as well as everyday issues such as communicating with her doctors, responding to treatment, etc. But I found it personally inspiring as I was able to relate much of it to issues that I have faced.
And the music! My favorite part was the wonderful songs, most of which are not specifically about cancer or even illness, but evoke the many emotions that Penny experienced on her journey. They are beautiful songs set in the perfect accompaniments. I only wish she had included a songbook.
I highly recommend this book by a multitalented woman whose strength, courage and warmth shine though on every page.
