5True words of wisdom  Apr 11, 2011
By Skyelab95 "Skye B"
Hugo Cory writes: "Some books are more alive than others." Presumably he is
referring to the great books of civilization; those that have stood the test of
time, that have led Men out of the dark and into the light, generation after
generation. In The Actor he demonstrates his own mastery of this concept. He has
written a book that is indeed alive: it grows along with you.

The subject of the book is one's inner actor. On stage and screen, when a great
actor masters a role he is said to "inhabit" the character. He becomes that
which he seeks to portray. Similarly, any Man can become exactly what he wishes
by inwardly creating a role and playing it with every ounce of his being.
Changing one's life is about changing the role one plays inwardly. This awakens
new possibilities in the Man and ultimately the "outside" comes to reflect the
"inside." To be a victor is a role, as is being a victim. You get to choose.

The actor is active. He is not a passive participant in the game of life,
allowing things to happen to him. He is controlling the storyline by controlling
his actions and reactions. His tool is Light, which is inner awareness.

In my experience, the lessons of The Actor get clearer as I do. I use it as a
reference book and return to it regularly, getting more out of each reading. I
find myself remembering the text at critical moments when my actor needs a
boost. Like a stagehand ready with the lines I've forgotten, Hugo's words come
whispered from backstage and I am reminded of the role I have chosen.

This book is for people ready to become the lead player in the life they want to
be living, not the one that seems to be happening to them.

5Deep, simple, direct  Aug 14, 2005

The Actor is a beautiful compilation of aphorisms that strike a cord deep in the heart. Witty and sharp, serious and honest. This book is to be read many times since it seems to evolve together with your own growth.
Highly reccomended for those who like to learn and don't want their food already chewed, digested and full of sweeteners.

5Less is so much more..  Jun 25, 2011
By michael m
Some of the statements are immediate border checkpoints that cross into paradigm shifts of simple yet profound understanding..others unfold with later visits..of course you want more depth, which only highlights the lack of understanding..the words become concepts that signal the day to day actions and thoughts that before went unchecked...
