This book is a read for all ages! It professes to be primarily written to appeal to the teenage audiences, but instead ends up capturing ALL of our hearts, no matter what age! I applaud the author, not only for the story,... but also for the "life lessons" within the story, as well as the excellent illustrations! This author has my ultimate respect for providing a wonderful story that helps to teach our children that reading is a really good thing and that it is INDEED entertaining as well!

This is a WONDERFUL book, full of magical people, animals, etc.............. A DEFINITE PAGE-TURNER!

5Carrie's Quest  Aug 27, 2009
By Ingrid Chafee
Carrie's Quest

This book, imaginatively illustrated by P. K. Lecoq, follows its thirteen-year-old heroine on her dream-like journey. Carrie Murphy is reading in her family's rock garden one hot August morning when a seismic tremor transports her far across space to the planet Vale, located in a distant galaxy. She lands near an unusual piece of amber that has buried deep in its center a warm, fiery glow, the "flame" of the title. The stone has just been dropped there by a crow who has stolen it from its shrine, where it is revered by the inhabitants of the planet (the Keepers) and watched over by their guardian angels. Carrie pockets the amberstone, and at once the flame in the stone speaks to her: it is Alma, a good spirit imprisoned there by an evil demon. Alma begs Carrie to secure her release, but to do so, Carrie must not give the stone back to the Keepers; instead, she must take the stone to Lobo -- a mysterious gray wolf who alone can break the stone and the spell.

The route to Lobo's lair is fraught with danger and suspense. Carrie's resourcefulness, her courage, and her true heart will sustain her -- but not before she survives a number of trials including a flood, captivity in a spooky manor house, and the murderous plots of the renegade Vincent. Along the way, Carrie has encounters with the angel Guardians, the human Keepers, and a variety of talking birds, animals, and insects.

Vale and its inhabitants resemble Earth in many ways; this permits Lecoq to create along Carrie's route some vividly drawn landscapes: meadows, rock quarries, a roaring river, rich farmland, and deep forests. The characters, animal and human, are drawn with affection and care. I particularly like the detailed description of life in the peaceful, cooperative agrarian society of the Keepers. Their little community is bound together by a warmth and loyalty which they generously extend to their new friend from Earth.

This enchanting and suspenseful tale should, ideally, be read on a summer day -- perhaps while sitting in a garden like Carrie's, free to daydream of voyages to far-away worlds parallel to our own, hidden yet accessible through the enduring magic of the written word.

4Nice fantasy for teen readers  Jan 21, 2012
By Thomas Lecoq
This book was written by my brother's wife. I think a teen ager who likes fantasy quest stories will enjoy the story. PK Lecoq is a wonderful artist and illustrator and worked hard to make this self published book terrific. I gave it 4 stars because I am not a teen--this book may not appeal to adults unless they really like fantasy quest stories.

5Exciting!  Sep 08, 2009

THE AMBERSTONE
If you're looking for a real adventure, read this book. Not only is the setting on two different planets, there are animals. birds, and even insects that talk. There's also a very dangerous villain in the book who is capable of committing murder. I read the book straight through to the end, because I was curious about the outcome and because I really liked the characters, both human and fauna.
I guarantee that once you pick up the book, you'll be rooting for Carrie, the main character, to win out.

The Amberstone is a great fantasy novel focusing on a teenager named Carrie who gets thrown across the galaxy into a gripping adventure. This book is a fun read- the characters are believable and interesting, the plot is dramatic, and the writing style is very descriptive.

This book is great for everyone, and I thoroughly recommend it.
