The Artistry of Bob Bogue

More than 30 paintings of Boonton done by Bob Bogue and compiled by Lloyd Charlton make up this wonderful pictorial history of Boonton. These paintings were exhibited at the Boonton Historical Museum and Lloyd conceived of this book as a photo album celebrating Bob’s incredible contribution to Boonton’s history as shown through his artistic talent. By using old photographs and postcards, Bob was able to capture important landmarks such as the Iron Works, the trolley that used to run along Main Street, the Puddingstone Inn, Whalen’s drug store, some prominent old Churches, some typical homes built in the 1920s, the local Darress theater (then named the State Theater), the firehouse/town hall, the Powerville dam and other charming paintings. More than 15 paintings were done over the last several years as Lloyd asked his old friend Bob (now in his 80s) to paint works of personal significance to Lloyd, whose family history in Boonton dates back several generations.

5Love the Home Town  Apr 10, 2009
By V. A. POMATA "Cool Grandma"
This is the town where my Father grew up, my Great-Grandfather owned an Ice Cream Parlor/Drug Store, and I was maried here in the Gazebo in the Park. My brothers and I played with Bob and Lynn's 4 children and listened to Bob and Lynn's funny stories. This book is a wonderful depiction of our home town and many like it all across this country! What a TREASURE! Such beautiful picture-memories of an innocent time.
Especially liked the painting of my Grandparents' house (page 8), my dentist's house (p.7), the park where I was married (p.16) and the church where my parent were married (p.9)
Thank you Bob.

5A Beautiful Tribute to an American Town  Feb 04, 2009
By Carolac "Carolac"
"The Artistry of Bob Bogue" paints a beautiful and loving portrait of the town of Boonton, a small New Jersey town with old-fashioned values located just an hour away from New York City. Bob Bogue's paintings capture the personality and history of the town, and A. Lloyd Charlton's anecdotes accompanying the 35 paintings tell the tale of a wonderful American town and friendships going back almost 80 years.
