The Aztec Book of Destiny

The Aztec Book of Destiny summarizes traditional Mesoamerican beliefs about the spiritual nature of time and its influence on one's personality and fate. The ancient Aztec, Toltec and Maya believed that the day of birth, as defined in their sacred calendar, affects destiny; and this philosophy has guided their daily lives for more than 3000 years. This book condenses the scattered and disparate literature about these beliefs into a fun and informative narrative; but it goes far beyond what academics and popular authors have published to date. The author presents a unique perspective shaped by the wisdom of a traditional calendar-keeper he met in Mexico in 1973. The book's message is that the calendar is not simply an ancient and forgotten curiosity - it is as relevant today as in ancient times. The majority of the book projects the timeless Mesoamerican philosophy into contemporary Western society encouraging introspection and self-awareness.

Hard to believe as fact. Just seems too simple. Seems like the author came to a conclusion rather than finished his studies. The Aztec calendar is clearly a complicated subject. The only people that will have any real knowledge, what's left of it, will be any living Aztecs.

This book has become very useful especially in being able to endow names for people within the culture, so usefull infact that even the one that teaches me to do the work has found it of great use.

5Great entertaining book for a party of academics!!  Dec 09, 2005
I've enjoyed this book for sharing with my friends! We've loved looking up all our birthdays and they ring true! Rick Holmer writes in an easy manner that anyone can understand but it makes a great book to pass around at a party with your egg-head friends (we all have a few!)

5It really is true!  Nov 28, 2005
I took an anthropology class from Mr Holmer last year at Idaho State University, he told us about this book he was working on and I am very excited to see it has finally been published! He did the aztec charts for everyone in class and they ring very true! It is amazing how much you can find out about yourself! I plan to purchase this book, but perhaps directly from the author himself and get an autograph! This is very well worth the money and it will entertain you for years to come as each new person you meet in life will want to know their destiny as well. It is a conversation piece for the ages!
