The Back Side of Wonderful

Over the past two decades, Emmy®-Award winning choreographer Doug Jack has directed over 40 stadium productions. The world’s biggest events: Summer and Winter Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Super Bowls, World Cup Spectaculars, and more. Now, in a wonderfully revealing warm, loving, and funny memoir, Doug shows how the lessons he’s learned from others (Celebrities and Unknowns, Divas and Volunteers) changed his life forever! The Back Side Of Wonderful is a joyous love song to the hopes that live in all of us; a guidebook (a dance) showing how to turn these hopes into living, loving realities; a travelogue of a gypsy’s dance through the great cities of the world; a celebration of the people and places who have enriched Doug’s life and work. Above all this is a story of one man’s love affair with the world of entertainment—and the larger world of life and the Possibility of People. The Back Side of Wonderful is a delightful, unforgettable, passionate, and deeply moving book.

5IT'S WONDERFUL BACK/FRONT/SIDE/UNDER/OVER/IN....  Oct 17, 2009
By J. Polsky
With BSW Doug is able to take the reader behind the scenes to see and hear and taste and live the extreme highs and lows, as well as the intense spiritual experiences and lessons, that those of us that live 'showbiz' day in and day out take for granted. With tears streaming down my face I set down this book and thanked God for the life I lead, thanked Doug for reminding me what a gift it is, and have ever since not stopped ambushing everyone I know to read it, URGENTLY. Urgently not only because it is 'interesting' to who might be a stranger to the 'biz, but because what Doug reminds us with his anecdotes, his reflections, his insights, is the necessity to get out there and LIVE. To take Life by the horns, wrestling it to the ground, never accept less than what our childhood dreams and wonder provided us with as goals, and never forget to look skyward and say: 'Wow. Thanks!'. Never have we, as a race, gotten so far away from these fundamental things. Never have we needed more to get slapped across the face with them. And never have the Doug Jacks of the world been so desperately needed to scoot us back a bit closer to them.

5A thank you, for the You that inspires me.  Feb 13, 2011
By Doug Jack
I am the books author, it seems odd to write a review on my own book, but what I wanted to do (as if I haven't done it louder or with even more passion in the incredible book that wrote me, my book...still brings tears of pride to my eyes)

I wanted to thank the people in my life who lined up that day I needed you and each and everyone of you ordinarily extraordinary people waited then cut into the next person and took a step that became a dance, you all danced with me showing me the Choreography of my life. It's then I realized it was your turn to lead and let me feel the silent strong cues to the next effortless step on the four corners of my worlds stage. You will never know just how much you gave to me the meaning of my life simply because you all took the time to say "Thanks for the Dance Doug, you made a life!"

So, now it is my turn to say back to all of you," you guys had me Wonderfully at...Doug, you wanna dance?"

"Yes, Yes I do and we did and it was you who made a life...mine."

I met Doug for the first time just last week, the meeting was brief but I felt a positive vibe from the start. As I left he gave me a copy of his book. Not really knowing much about this man I didn't know what to expect. Yet page after page I read finding myself unable to even think of putting this little gem down.

From his start with Disney every story in this book has such warmth it makes you feel good. I even found out that I had been to one of his events, and what a joy it was to travel that memory road again.

Give yourself a treat and get this book.

5Blown away  Sep 25, 2010
By Oriah Miller
I have had the pleasure of meeting Doug Jack after reading his book, and I was equally blown away. Excitement, enthusiasm and pure joy doesn't come close to describing this bright shining ball of fun. Doug has mastered the art of communicating to large audiences through art, speaking, choreography and now written word. He is an Emmy Award winning Director and Choreographer of Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, Super Bowl Halftime Shows, and other landmarks of Stadium Theater size venues.

He has changed my life completely just by being it. His enthusiasm to overcome the hardest, most impossible challenges and diagnoses has left me speechless. He puts to shame 'I can't' and does not listen to 'it's too late.' This book is perfect to motivate and inspire individuals and teams with Doug's relentless humor and his ability to point out the not so obvious in life. He looks for the golden nuggets and brings it to the surface for the world to see. Bravo Doug for just being one of the most amazing human beings I have met.

5Life coaching at it's most enjoyable.  Mar 16, 2010
By Deacon "opportunity is not a lengthy visitor"
BSW is amazing, plain and simple. Painting a glorious and tangible portrait of his own life, Doug manages to teach without effort. Doug takes you with him, he's not preaching from a pulpit and he's definitely not holding back. I laughed out loud at times and was choking back tears at others. The gift of MSU alone is worth the price of the book.

I would, and do, highly recommend this book. If you are looking for a way to improve your life, if you are trying to get past a tragedy and regain your life, if you feel like you are being picked on, or judged, or have too much expected of you... this is the book you need to read.

Thank you Mr. Jack!
