It's not really a diet - more like a guideline. Feb 02, 2007
By njpaddy I began my own common sense "diet" after New Years, cutting out the donuts, fast-food lunches, candy bars and sugared soda. I began to lose weight, but I didn't know what to do next. I haven't eaten healthy since army boot-camp 40 years ago, so I had no clue. My wife does weight-watchers, but it's too much of a hassle for me. Plus she can live on salad and veggies-I can't. This book reinforced that I was on the right track and helped fill in the gaps. Since it is not a diet, I can slowly phase-in his suggestions as I feel I need them. I'm lazy, so I haven't gotten around to exercising on a regular basis. Even so, I continue to gradually lose weight, have more energy and yet I never seem to be hungry. I'm also not afraid to have a beer or go out to a restaurant on the weekend. The author does care and responded very quickly when I emailed him with a question.

Title is misleading... Jan 04, 2007
By K. Mench
"Tried That Too"
Having lost a lot of weight myself, when I heard this guy on the radio in OH I was intrigued by the Beer Drinker's part, so I got the book. You dieters out there know the basic diets: count calories, avoid carbs, exercise, use pills. This is an 'exercise' diet repackaged with 'Beer' in the title. Of course you can drink alcohol if you get up then next morning and run it off. Cardio and weight training work great as long as your lifestyle supports it. My opinion: a few good tidbits in the book (general knowledge to dieters), but there are much better resources that focus on the foods you eat to promote lifelong habit changes (read:change your diet) that will keep the weight off, including handling cravings, instead of focusing on intense workouts.

The Beer Drinker's Diet Feb 17, 2007
By Dr. Jimbo
"Dr. Jimbo"
Skip the first half of this book---It's just an autobiog of the author's
fat vs thin vs fit battles.
The second half offered lots of good info, offered in an easily-readable
style

Very interesting and informative. May 13, 2007
By B. Roth I really enjoyed reading his history of yo-yo weight gain and loss. I think he gives good information in the second half of the book, as far as diet and exercise. If you're looking for something more detailed you may need to go elsewhere, which is what I needed. I don't think there's anything here that can't be found in a lot of other books, but it's still a good read.
