English - Yank Love Aug 01, 2006
By James Crumbie I had the privilege to be stationed with James Helm in England during the years of the second part of the trilogy and I can honestly say that this book is accurate and to the point. I personally knew the people in the "Yank and the Beauty Queen".
James does a good job of explaining events in his story lines in a way that makes the readers feel like thay are there and are a part of the experiences.
I hope that James Helm comes out with a follow up book to this one. I for one would be the first person to buy any book that he authors.
A Book with Heart Nov 17, 2008
By Linda S. Hyatt
"Linda"
I knew Jim in school and believe it or not, I still will not write a biased (for him) review, but will be completely fair and candid.
I could not put down the book once I began reading. It was as if I was sitting in the same room with Jim, him relating these stories to me, one on one.
The book is a very naked, intimate look at parts of his life. He is honest about it all, from his verbal tirades to drinking too much. And through it all, his trademark sweetness, humanity and vulnerability emanate. He, like most of the rest of us, want to love and be loved, thoroughly and forever.
That he wants to share these stories with the world, to give complete strangers a close-up look at him as a man, a father, a husband, a lover, a human being with all the requisite flaws.......it is his gift to us, to know that we are not alone with our private losses and heartaches.

Fascinating Tales of Love and Loss Jul 26, 2006
By Matt Dobey After opening this book, I found myself unable to put it down until I had read it all. James R. Helm tells the stories of his courtship of three women throughout the course of his life. The stories are told in such a way that the reader feels as though Mr. Helm is a long lost friend, relating the experiences of his life.
The author's love for the other is apparent, through the vivid recollection of his thoughts, feelings, and unique challenges endured in each relationship. The major obstacles hindering the author's loves include racial tensions, Anti-American sentiments, and a decision that would challenge the virtue of anyone who loves another so deeply.
This book is a must read for people of all ages and from all walks of life. It will leave the reader with a new outlook on life, and a different perspective of their past, present, and future relationships.
