Great Book! Jan 14, 2010
By Ivan Maxwell Great Book! The Brain Mechanic was very insightful, and honestly taught me more than my college Psychology classes. The examples used in the book were very helpful and made understanding each cognitive behavioral model much more simple. I honestly wish I would have had this book while I was taking my Psychology classes, it would have helped me greatly. The Brain Mechanic is very easy to read and is written in laymen terms so its easily understandable. Thanks Brain Mechanic!

Thank you Brain Mechanic!!! Dec 18, 2009

Kudos to Spencer Lord. FINALLY, Some one can explain in plain English the science and dynamics of Cognitive Behavioral Theory and how our erroneous beliefs can be changed. It's a super easy read and when these principals are conscientiously applied to the "problems" we face each & every day, they change your whole outlook on life for that Zen-like state of being.
I only wish this book had been available a long time ago.

Kudos for The Brain Mechanic Dec 13, 2009

I read this book in two and a half hours after I read it. Through out the week i decided to use the exercises in the book and found them very helpful. This is a great book to have and to start your cognitive journey, and discoveries of the power of the mind. I enjoyed it a lot and found that it resonated with a lot of my buddhist readings from my earlier years studying Buddhism.

A Skeptic's Conversion Nov 09, 2009

To my fellow skeptics: As you know, therapeutic treatises are prolific and, too often, tend to the vanity of the self-proclaimed expert than to the thousands of people living through emotional challenges that these experts are ostensibly interested in helping. With this in mind, I took the advice of a friend and ordered a copy of The Brain Mechanic. It is with unrestrained pleasure that I say that I've found a place to go when my own emotional responses become destructive or self-sabotaging. I've read CBT classics such as Feeling Good, but Lord's unpretentious tone and intuitive exercises are accessible to those among us with too little time but a lot to gain from cognitive behavioral "self-enhancement"; whereas it took me weeks to finish FG, I read The Brain Mechanic in a few hours.
The book's fun and useful implementation of jargon, e.g. "the fact," kept me reading and made his principles easy to remember and explain to friends for whom I think his message would be useful. Speaking of which: In these tough economic times, even the most emotionally balanced among us are being thrown off course. The next time you are inclined to worry for distressed loved ones, consider making a gift of Spencer Lord's new book. I can't think of anything that would be better than these tools for self-change and sustained balance.

Awesome Book! Mar 04, 2012
By Michelle Reynolds I have the audiobook....a real easy listen...finished it rather quickly while on my daily walks. As a daughter of a Psychologist, I have always been interested in self help and psychology/human behaviour books. This book is one of many I have read but one of the very best I have read/listened to. It is actually a little humerous in parts, especially the part about how we "awfulize" things...and make things waaaaay worse than we really should. This book has helped me to re-think the way I think...and be more logical. thank you Spencer...more books please!
Michelle
