The Breezy Meadow: A Butterfly's Story

Tender and wise, The Breezy Meadow: A Butterfly’s Story by Florence Ports Brown is a celebration of self; it is a memoir and a journey. Decidedly Southern in its charms and persuasions, Brown’s narrative is comprised of bittersweet memories of a country childhood spent in the rural province of Georgia during the early 1960s. Incredibly personal, she unveils the bacon and eggs of her life—and the grit and happenstance. With chapter titles such as “Sweet Potato Pie,” “The Coon Root,” “Maypop Summer,” and “Sugarcane Harvest,” she describes her transformation from a young colored girl to a strong woman, and of American life during segregation, when a person’s worth was based on social class and the color of their skin. Her journey through poverty and prejudice was not without deep and heartfelt joy as she looks back in appreciation for the trials and tribulation that made her who she is today—a woman of faith, a woman who embraces God, life, and love.

This book tells about a persons journey from adolescence to adulthood and how on this this journey she met many of lifes hardships, struggles, and challenges. However, because of the way she was raised, because of the memories she strongly holds on to of her parents, and her faith in God; she feels free now. She's not afraid of the world and ready to face any of lifes challenges head on. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I can't relate to some of her struggles but, in this book you will find that there is still so much love, peace, and hope that can be found in your life and within yourself, even when the meadow is breezy.

To the author, Florence Ports Brown - Congratulations on writing and publishing such an interestng memoir, "The Breezy Meadow: A Butterfly's Story."

The title of your book caught my eye! I felt that this seemed like a story that I wanted to know more about, and possibly could identify with. I was right, because I couldn't put it down. I read it within one day.

The story is a piece of interesting writing, with lots of detail. As I read - I laughed, I cried and I understood the bittersweet memories of this young girl growing up in hard times (eventhough she had substance from a loving family) and enduring so much grief, while offering so much of self to others, as she became an adult. I can identify with some of the same bittersweet memories that she endured.

The book has alot of interesting qualities and is presented in such a manner to remember from whence you came, building blocks for today, a way to exhale, amend and move forward with a higher power guiding every step of the way.

WONDERFUL STORY - BE PROUD!
