Lots of Fun. May 07, 2009
By S. Adsit

I Got the Cardboard boat book a few months ago. Built the boat with 6 year old son. We had a lot of fun building it. It attracted a lot of attention outside in the driveway, and a few times we ended up with a small party of neighbors hanging out, talking, helping, and having fun. It was Awesome. After waiting two months for a day without Snow or rain, I got it in the lake. Floats like a dream. We spent over two hours floating around and exploring the areas we cant get to by land. Not a hint of water damage afterwords. My son had plenty of room up front, and I was more than comfortable in back. The boat is very sturdy. Resists tipping more than a plastic Kayak too. So I give the book a thumbs up. It delivers a great product and a lot of fun on the way. The end result is cool, but its the getting there, the "building" that is the best. My son is very proud of our accomplishment.
So I bet people are thinking, "Do I really need to buy the book, cant I just make one on my own?"..... Buy the book. This is a serious boat. It will work, and it will last a lifetime. I could not have done it without the book. You will understand how well engineered the plans are once you make it.

Amazing Paper Boat Feb 15, 2009
By Connie R. Montgomery I am aware of this boat and the book and I must say that what I have seen is amazing. Not only is the book very readable, the instructions are clear and concise with a combination of diagrams and pictures, making it truly a DIY project with all the supplies needed available at your local hardware store. These boats Mr. Friant has built really work! And they last!! Most cardboard boat types last 30 minutes if your lucky. Twnety three years of repeated use is remarkable and a testimony to this boats design. I can't wait to start mine! Nice job Mr. Friant!!!

The Cardboard Boat Book Feb 14, 2009

The Cardboard Boat Book is step-by-step instruction manual that teaches you how to build a small kayak style boat with recyclable resources using readily available tools and materials and standard size sheets of corrugated paper cardboard.
For every book that has ever been written there is a story that goes along with it. The story is usually bigger than the book as the book is the culmination of the story that drove the creation of the book in the first place. The Cardboard Boat Book is such a book and its story spans an entire career and a lifetime pursuit to complete a project that began twenty-five years ago. The story involves a dream, as well as a belief that these boats are truly seaworthy, and a desire to provide the world with something that has not yet been done like this before.
You are now viewing the completion of the story, The Cardboard Boat Book. This is a story of a college physics project that so engrossed my mind and soul that it has followed me throughout my entire career beginning with my first job in the computer industry. The story continued as I started my own computer company and shut down my company, through marriage, divorce, and raising children, including heartbreaks as well as great joy along the way. It has followed me as I traveled all over the world working for some of the most interesting and successful companies of the 21st century. The Cardboard Boat Book has opened doors for me for 26 years. Who could have known that a college physics project and a cardboard boat would have done so much for one person? It is a story of dedication and perseverance to develop a simple solution for an intriguing problem. The boats themselves are an elegant, simple, and clever design, crafted from an unconventional boat building material.
In the beginning of this project the personal computer as we know it today did not exist. We used calculators, descriptive geometry, algebra, and trigonometry to design our ideas and put them on paper. The cardboard boat designs in this book were a product of those simpler times. After lots of testing on paper and in the classroom the design worked! It not only worked, it worked really well. I then expounded on the original idea and built them larger and stronger. Then one day I had the vision of The Cardboard Boat Book, something that just happened due to all of the time and effort put into the project.
I first proposed the idea of writing the book to my engineering professor. I envisioned the book being a college assignment to satisfy my elective credit requirements. He agreed to my proposal and I subsequently earned 15 `A' credits for writing the book which allowed me to graduate with honors. This was the first success, or as I like to refer to it, Chapter one of The Cardboard Boat Book, and the first of many chapters to come. (To learn the rest of the story of The Cardboard Boat Book you will need to read the book. If I told you the whole story this review would be very long.)
The Cardboard Boat Book is now available to everyone in the world who wants to build their own environmentally-friendly 'green' boat with recyclable resources. The boats are very simple to build and they do not require any special tools to build them. People as young as 15-years have built boats with the instructions outlined in the book.
The boats are constructed using readily available tools and materials and standard size sheets of corrugated paper cardboard. You can usually find everything you need to build a cardboard boat from a 'do-it-yourself' home improvement store.
I believe there isn't anything half as much fun as messing around in a boat on a sunny day. The Cardboard Boat Book teaches you how to build your own boat for the price of the paint, glue, and tape required to put it together, it doesn't harm the environment, and it is fully recyclable.
I am very proud to say with a smile on my face that "I finally wrote The Cardboard Boat Book!" I hope you have fun with this book and your boat. I also want to encourage you to follow your dreams, you never know what may come of them.

Going to build a Boat! Mar 21, 2011
By Marie H. Derr
"Always reading something..."
I am delighted with this book and am planning on building a boat to enter in the "2011 Small Ships Review" event which takes place in June every year on the river by the QSL restaurant in Sharon Pa.
I love that the boat will not weigh a ton, and that the author claims fifteen year olds have made them with little guidance from adults (my kind of project!).
The information in the book is written very clearly and there are wonderful illustrations showing exactly where to fold, cut, etc. Additionally there are pictures of completed boats, some of which the author claims have been around for several seasons, so this is not a 'throw away project.' The author is very thorough in sharing his knowledge from what type of sealer to use (which is environmentally friendly like the rest of the project), to how to get into your boat without capsizing it.
I searched on the internet for boat ideas which would be inexpensive and found a YouTube video at the website here: [...] I was very excited to see these boats skimming nicely along the water, one even had an electric motor.
Great purchase, cannot wait for the weather to break so I can start building!
