UNIQUE THEME, UNUSUAL TALES Apr 04, 2006
By Pauline Peh This is the first book ever published that has ghosts linked to time travel. Superstition and science are placed side by side, and the plots of the stories are realistic and touching. Both the good and bad sides of human nature are exposed in stories that cover a period of almost 100 years. While friendship, faithfulness and love are extolled; betrayal, jealousy and hatred are shown in a bad light. Although the setting of the stories is in Asia, Singapore to be specific, the human nature that the characters exhibit is universal. But not all the characters in this book are human beings. One is a dog, a very intelligent and faithful dog, and through this dog's exploits, the book conveys a strong message to readers, namely to love animals too. It is pure coincidence that this year is the year of the dog, according to the Chinese zodiac. This is a book that both the young and the old should read, and animal lovers must not give it a miss.

TWISTING TIME Apr 05, 2006
By Thomas Caldwell This novel is extraordinary in that it develops from Einstein's concept of time, namely that the past, present and future all exist together in a four-dimensional space-time reality. What the author does is to make some characters from different times cross one another occasionally, and from this phenomenon, he generates heartbreaking and heartwarming tales, which are actually real-life and historical events. While starting from science, the author ensures that the novel is also a piece of art. Not only are the plots and the events impressively crafted, but human values are also assessed tastefully. The style of writing is so appealing and easy to read, and alliteration pervades the book. The author is no doubt a master of alliteration.
