5A great adventure.  Jun 13, 2007
By Eliffio Rodríguez
In this story, Iván Bolaños takes us to a new world where the survivors of Atlantis settled. That's the beginnig of "The Athyrant", the first part of "The Crystals of Vuhran" dilogy.

Many centuries after the arrival, the atlanteans will realize that their destiny is bound to a caste of warriors sent by the gods, the athyrant. At the end two great kingdoms will fight on both sides of the sea.

Never the less, the treasure inherited from the gods will decide their fate.

From inside the book: "It seemed that all the fury of Athar had been unleashed, reaching every corner of those mountains as if it were searching for a life to take in order to appease its wrath."

I've found very good original names in this story, good action. It's difficult to get bored.

Highly recommended.

5Atlantean odyssey  Nov 14, 2006
By Carlo Mazzini
This book is about the survivors of an ancient kingdom starting over after the destruction of their island.

It hooked me from the very beginning. The story flows easily, you just want to know what is going to happen next.

The battles are epic and I liked very much the concept of common men using "god-sent" weapons.

We have here a fantasy-genre book with some science-fiction touches. One interesting thing is that the second part, not published yet, sets the action some thousands of years later.

Definitely a good reading.

4Like a legend of old....  Oct 24, 2007
By Deborah Wiley
What really happened when Atlantis fell? Step inside the pages of THE ATHYRANT as Iván Bolaños Gamero weaves his masterful tale....

The survivors of Atlantis were entrusted with a sacred crystal, a crystal whose fate would govern that of all of their descendants. Life resumed, and with the return to daily living, darker forces took root in the new land. One man will emerge to join THE ATHYRANT as a soldier of God, Aheolian-Priem. What will be the fate of Aheolian-Priem, the crystal, and the descendants of Atlantis?

THE ATHYRANT is a breathtaking tale, both in its scope and intensity. It is not necessarily an easy read, but one to be read slowly and savored. Iván Bolaños Gamero paints readers a portrait of this new world as he creates a story that reads like a legend of old.

THE ATHYRANT will appeal to readers looking for a new myth to enjoy. Events unfold at a leisurely pace, but don't mistake this as meaning there is no action. Instead, there are some very powerful moments in this tale, such as the gift of the tiny wooden horse by Aheolian-Priem.

THE ATHYRANT is a tale well worth immersing yourself in. The beauty of the language makes it almost seem as if THE ATHYRANT is one of the old myths or legends, and Iván Bolaños Gamero does an excellent job at maintaining that feeling throughout the book. Please note that there is a very helpful glossary at the end to keep track of the various names, places, and other words used in this captivating tale.

5Complex and original story  Sep 20, 2007
By Lesley West
It is difficult to classify this novel - it has elements of both the fantasy and science fiction genres, and as such should be very appealing to fans of both. For those who have an additional interest in the myth of the long lost Atlantis, or perhaps a broader interest in apocolpytic fiction, this could be exactly what you are looking for!

The story trips along at a fair rate - it is certainly a page turner and keeps you interested in the story and wanting to know what is happening. The battle scenes are certainly engaging, well thought out and believable.

For a first novel this is greatly imaginative, and the attention to detail is impressive. Well done to Iván Bolaños Gamero, and we look forward to the next instalment of this entertaining tale.

4Experience a new myth  Jul 18, 2007
By Francesca De Negri
A great choice. We have here an interesting book but specially, a very original story. I've always liked the myth of Atlantis and in the "Crystals of Vuhran" the author gives us a new perspective on this ancient and mysterious people's fate.

It also has a very good narrative order, considering it is his first novel.
