The Day I Saw a Dragonfly

Heartfelt and sincere, The Day I Saw a Dragonfly by Heather Fitzpatrick is a children’s tale that makes letting go a little easier. As the author carries on her father’s dream and a family tradition of storytelling, she shares with readers a special story about angels that fly on the backs of dragonflies. Especially tender to young readers that have suffered the death of a family member or a beloved pet, this narrative celebrates life, enchantment, and the special corners of heaven. A mother and her two daughters are on a walk in the forest, when the mother, who has recently buried her father, spies a dragonfly. It is well known, she explains, that dragonflies carry angels on their backs; it is why dragonflies have an extra set of wings. The girls surmise that it must be their grandfather and a special habit begins, in which the three know in their heart that when a dragonfly nears it is a very special angel visiting them. 5The Day I Saw a Dragonfly  Mar 21, 2009
By L. Simons
A wonderful story for children to help them deal with losing a loved one. Understanding what happens to a person or a pet after death is very hard to explain to young children. This story aids in that process. You will never look at a dragonfly the same way again!

5Lovely story  Mar 16, 2009
By Alicia B. Jenne
This is a lovely story that will relate to readers of all ages. I was given this book by a very special young lady and her equally special family after the death of my brother. It helps me to look forward. To look for new things. I am certainly looking forward to "seeing" my brother in the little everyday happenings, as we learn to live on this earth without him. You can be sure that I will always look a little more closely at dragonflies! A beautiful story, succinctly written. Well done Ms. Fitzpatrick!

4A wonderful read!  Oct 04, 2012

This was a beautifully illustrated and sensitively written book and you don't have to be a young child to be touched by it. A couple of years after my mother died, I gave my 13-year-old granddaughter (my mother's great-granddaughter) a copy of this book and it touched her deeply. We both now look forward to a rare glimpse at a dragonfly (we don't have many of them where we live) and always feel like it's Mom's way of checking in and saying hello.

5GREAT BOOK FOR CHILDREN  Oct 04, 2012

What a great book to help children deal with loss. After reading this book to my daughter it opened up a whole conversation about loss and I was able to help her understand it more. I am thankful the author kept it simple and sweet aimed for children's minds. Since reading the book I am now fascinated everytime I see a dragonfly!! I would highly recommend this book to anyone with children.

5A must read  Oct 01, 2009

The Day I saw a Dragonfly, is a fantastic way to explain the loss of someone special to a child. With having the book written from a child's perspective, it is easier for them to understand. After reading the story when they look at dragonflies there is a sense of peace and comfort. Very well written Mrs. Fitzpatrick!
