Brilliant Apr 25, 2009
By Sunder Black This book was recommended to me from a friend who said it was a great read. I was skeptical at first since I've never heard of the author but I gave it a chance and am glad I did. The author Jeff Totten offers up a fantastic story that grips you from the first chapter to the last. Once I picked it up it was near impossible to put down due to the adept writing of the author. In the first few chapters of The Eagle's Talon you get introduced to over a dozen colorful characters, which with some authors means a few of the characters end up bland and sometimes can be hard to differentiate, but Totten manages to paint these characters in such a distinguishable way that even though by the end of the book, with multiple story lines happening parallel to each other, I didn't have the least bit of trouble following along with the adventure. Each character feels so wholly realized it gives this world you are reading a validity that engrosses the reader even more. I am definitely looking forward to more work from this talented author.
A fun book Jun 09, 2011
By E. Argot This is a fun book. Written in a way that constantly leaves you wanting to know what happens next. Just when you think you've figured it out, a new character or something else is introduced to completely throw you off. The next part would be great, so the adventure can continue but this book has a closing that completes the story at this point. Although it brings you in and describes the characters and settings in a very vivid manner, it allows your imaginaton to figure a few of the things out, leaving to wonder whether it's another twist or if you've figured something out. It even brings the bad guys in from a different angle. Although it's a mature book, I liked the fact that this book isn't too graphic and doesnt have curse words, so younger readers can enjoy too. Really enjoyed this.
A great first novel Dec 30, 2010
By Jacksonmarks Jeff Totten has revealed himself to be a talented novelist. The Eagle's Talon is captivating from the get-go and the story does not disappoint. It is good realistic fiction with plenty of suspense and surprise.
Barely OK Apr 30, 2010
By R. Morgan To each their own, but I really do not see how anybody could give this five stars. Leaving alone the absolutely dreadful proofreading, the storyline (good guys and bad guys look for looted treasure left over from the end of WWII) has been done many times before, and the characters are one-dimensional.
If I had been expecting less I likely wouldn't be so disappointed. This book came up as recommended because of other books I bought (The Tourist, The Bridge of Sighs: A Novel), but while the others are actually very good books, this one is barely OK.
I'm not saying don't buy it, but don't expect something special. And, to the publisher: No joke; get a new proofreader.
when will the next one come out? Apr 13, 2009
By ED I really enjoyed reading this book. McAllister, the main character, is likeable and real. All characters didn't seem too stereo-typical, dialogue wasn't forced, and action sequences made you feel like you were watching a movie. Great description without being overdone. I really did not know that much about the Nazi's secret "world" and found the book informative, like a history lesson come to life, but no so over-the-top to be categorized with Indiana Jones' adventures. It's obvious a ton of research was done before making this book and I look forward to reading the sequel, since there are still many plots that have not finished unraveling.
