The Earth-Friendly Food Chain: Food Choices for a Living Planet

Millions of citizens realize that their food choices can help-or hurt-the Earth. But with so many decisions to make (meat vs. vegetarian? organic vs. local?), how is a busy person to navigate all the possibilities? The Earth-Friendly Food Chain: Food Choices for a Living Planet is a concise, practical guide through the exciting new world of healthy, sustainable food, packed with inspiring facts and true stories. Addressed to a wide range of readers (omnivores, vegetarians, busy professionals, homemakers, students, and more) The Earth-Friendly Food Chain describes five key decisions readers can make, and the many options available within each of the five key decisions that support the health of person and planet. Against the background of the flawed industrial food system, the book highlights positive changes and the power of citizens to help save the Earth with their food choices. Foreword by John Robbins, ground-breaking author of The Food Revolution

5Excellent, friendly, thought-provoking and health-oriented.  Jul 10, 2010
By Jane Rachel Kaplan
This is a very friendly and readable book. Dr. Riebel brings an insightful, wise, friendly, and upbeat focus to helping us all have a healthy relationship to food and the earth. She shows us success stories as well as points out the dangers of modern agribusiness and our unaware ways of living. I could feel her empathy for people, plants, animals, and the planet as a whole. I could sense the power of her creativity in presenting just the right kind of information that will help readers understand the problem and feel empowered to act. The reader is aided in finding their own solutions. Her website too, provides a way to stay connected, whether you are a teacher, educator, environmentalist, or newly interested reader. Between the book and website there is a real dynamic movement that is both friendly and protective of the planet. I recommend this book to anyone concerned about food, the environment, and what they can easily do to make a great deal of difference.

5It's About Time...  Jul 08, 2010
By Jim King
Of all the many books out there that deal with the emerging topic of healthy, sustainable food, this one blows away the competition. Written in an easy to understand, direct and clear way, Linda Riebel captures the essence of how to go about making positive changes in your diet, lifestyle and day to day life. Only 160 pages, but jam-packed with suggestions, guidelines and, yes, FACTS, the Earth-Friendly Food Chain is a must read for people who want to be practical agents of change.

This is a great resource. I recommend it to anyone who is interested in making healthier lifestyle choices. This book is concise, informative, user friendly, relevant and timely. Specifically, the author provides well-conceived suggestions and guidelines for everybody. The cool thing is that Linda Riebel has come up with a truly sustainable book that contains real solutions to today's environmental challenges.

4Anyone Can Do This  Dec 29, 2009
By eatplants
Unlike so many other books about trying to save the planet through our food choices, this book understands that not everyone is ready to become a vegan. With options to choose plant based foods when we can and to cook more of our own food when we can, Linda Riebel offers a path out of complacency regardless of where we are with our own preferences. And she goes way beyond food choices to show how our other household habits can become much more eco friendly, including being more mindful of energy use, replacing paper towels with reusable towels, buying fair trade coffee, and more. I loved her chapter on fish and dairy, and the foreword by John Robbins reminds me of why his books are still among my favorites. Add this one by Linda Riebel to the favorites shelf if you want to do your share to slow down the planetary degradation and be part of the solution.

5A must-read for anyone who cares about the health of themselves and the planet  Dec 18, 2009
By Melanie Joy
The Earth-Friendly Food Chain is a wonderful little book, packed full of powerful yet simple advice on how to make the best food choices for oneself and the planet. The book is small but full of facts, facts that will alarm (as they should) but also inspire the reader. It is also extremely easy to read, with lots of short sections, lists, and text boxes.

The best thing about this book, and what makes it unique (in my experience), is that it gives readers a wide variety of options to choose from so they can make their food choices earth-friendly. The focus of the book is on the good news - on solutions that are already well established and that are practical and often simple.
Readers will come away with the knowledge that they don't have to make major sacrifices or radically transform their lives in order to make a difference for themselves and the planet. And the forward by John Robbins is an added bonus!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn how they can eat more healthfully while also helping to save our planet.
