5Fresh Look at Basic Business Principles  Mar 13, 2009
By zuzu
The Enviable Lifestyle shares the 9 basic business principles they used to start and run a successful small business. But wait, there's more. Bill and Shelly actually share specific examples from their experiences to illustrate those ideas. Their suggestions have helped me look at our sign and graphics business from a fresh point of view. I especially appreciated the "Live Your Business" concept, the idea that you are your business and your business is you in the eyes of your customers. It helped me refocus my thoughts about people who called to ask about vehicle lettering at 10pm on Sunday night! Never being comfortable with the 1960's method of "make the sale" (sorry Zig), we're reluctant to go to networking events because we know we'll feel out of place trying to "sell" ourselves and business. But TEL's idea of pretending that you've invited all the people at Schmoozefest to your home as guests and you want to make sure they have a great time, makes perfect sense to me - I can do that - and now we've made contacts for the future of our business. Get them and leave them alone; unconditional positive regard; help others look good to their clients; time with your client goes beyond actual contact with them; never say no; free work isn't wasted effort; these concepts and others explained in TEL are ones that define how we want our business to operate. Written as a guide to massage therapists who are interested in starting their own business, The Enviable Lifestyle is a book that will help just about any small business owner, because YOUR BUSINESS IS YOU, and YOU ARE YOUR BUSINESS. You really do want to know "I'm living my dream...I have the enviable lifestyle!"

5Amazing Book! Should be Used in Massage Schools!  Nov 13, 2008
By Valerie Newman "Valmassage"
I have been practicing massage for many years without much background as to how to run a business or attract clients. This book is full of fundamental ideas as well as novel ways to approach building your business. The authors let you into the core of their business. They are dedicated to their craft and devoted to making more of the population aware of massage. It is a book that will inspire you to "get out there". It gets you thinking more creatively about ways to build your massage practice - in fact, I now keep a notebook by my bed because suddenly the ideas for my business are flowing!

The book is well worth the small investment!

5Don't Consider a Career Move WIthout This Gem!  Jul 10, 2009
By C. Farley "seafaire"
As many more people are being expected to acquire multiple job skills, massage can seem like an attractive and lucrative calling. This excellent book lays it on the line, how it's not just the physical labor of massage but the constant, necessary people and marketing skills essential to keep your business thriving. One especially good section was why one never turns down "pro bono" work and setting up a fund on your website to meet that daily request. Just brilliant and very practical but still allows for a peek at an inspiring career possibility.

5Incredible and Valuable Tool; Amazing Read  Aug 14, 2008
By Lesley Hobbs
I ordered this book because the title captured my interest. It gave me several great ideas to use in my practice that I truly believe will help me become a more successful therapist. I learned more real-life information from this book than I did from any business class. You can tell that the authors are passionate about massage and have been in the field doing the work. This is a great book, a MUST READ, for massage therapists and anyone starting their own business in the service industry.
