The Energy Factor Explains Everything Mar 18, 2009
By Bootsie I found it to be a fascinating read. If this guy's theories on how the human mind works pan out, we could be talking about a book of historical significance here. Attreau's energy factor explains everything from depression to fatigue to what's wrong with your personality to why things dog and eat at your mind the way that they do to health and aging.
I don't know what technique that one reviewer thinks he was doing but it definitely was not the Energy-Control Meditation Technique if he really thinks that ECMT is the same thing as yoga. Let's take a look at just a few of the glaring differences between the two:
1) ECMT doesn't use a mantra. Yoga does.
2) ECMT doesn't focus on breathing pattern. Yoga does.
3) ECMT doesn't use visual focuses. Yoga does.
4) ECMT doesn't use any physical contortions or positions. Yoga does.
5) ECMT is based on the way that your mind actually works - the only form of meditation that is. Yoga is not. Never was.
6) And if you really want to know what seperates ECMT from yoga, ECMT resets the energy factors within a person's mind. Yoga does not. Never did. Never could. Never will.
I think that effectively and permanently slams the door shut on that ridiculous argument once and for all. Frankly, I don't know why anyone would even want to attempt to make the connection.
And what I'd like to know is what in the hell book was it that that other reviewer read who said of this book: "It was just the author rambling about not eating red meat..." Although the author does make a reference to an experience that he had with red meat, it's not until the very last page of the entire book and comes at the end of the very serious chapter on how to recognize the signals that your subconscious mind sends to your conscious mind. Go figure.

Not that fabulous Feb 13, 2009
By Rubedo I am sorry to say that this is really nothing new. I have been doing it for years.
Yoga was defined by Patanjali as the restraint of thought nearly 1900 years ago and that was only the written form of a much older yoga practice.
The mantra and other techniques of other methods are only starting practices that lead up to the cessation of thought or "shut down" Attreau refers to.
True, we hear mostly about mantras, breath control, visual focuses, or an object for concentration. These are seeds for mediation. but there is also a seedless mediation and that is pretty much the aim of this ECMT. I think of it more as silence. Just as we talk and then close our mouths and be silent, so also are our thoughts are like inner chatter that we can silence by an effort to just stop. When I become aware of a thought I just stop it, restrain it and sit in an alert attentive inner silence. I think my method is very similar if not the same thing as ECMT. I would not call it anything special. That is yoga.
That being said, I am glad to see that someone else prefers a seedless meditation and finds it easier. It is much easier for me than any mantra method although for the first ten minutes of any meditation I just let thoughs come and go without much concern, maybe use mantra a little, then it is pure thought silencing or cutting off their energy.

Mind and health in one Dec 28, 2009
By hipkade The only reason I'm giving this book five stars is because I can't give it ten!
Not only does it teach readers a revolutionary new way to meditate - one invented in 2001 by an American, by the way - it teaches readers how the mind works as well. Of course, that's because the Energy-Control Meditation Technique is actually based on the way that the mind works. The two go hand in hand. Mandatory reading for anyone who wants to understand how the mind works.
Oh yeah, and the health benefits aren't too shabby either.

Wild! Dec 02, 2009
By peechie First, I want to go on record as being in full agreement with bootsie's review that it's absolutely foolhardy to equate the Energy-Control Meditation Technique with yoga. The differences between the two could not be more profound.
That said, I don't know what it was I liked the most about this book, whether it was learning a new and revolutionary way to meditate or the things that it teaches about the way your mind works. I will say this. Mr Attreau's theories on how the mind works made it the wildest read I've ever indulged in. I'll guarantee you one thing. You'll never again take for granted how your mind uses energy after reading this book. Kudos to Mr Attreau and his energy factor.
Attreau recently started a great blog based on the energy factor and his marvelous technique. Anyone interested in this book might want to consider checking it out: [...]

Fabulous Energy Control Meditation Technique Dec 11, 2008
By MichyD Thank you so much !! I read this book, practiced the technique, and it worked for me. It's been 6 months since I read the book, but the effects were immediate. Within 2 weeks I noticed a difference in my concious thought patterns, and energy levels. I used to obsess over my relationship with my ex husband of 13 years. I would go to bed thinking about it, I would sit all day in front of the tv thinking about it, and go to bed the same way. This book changed my life and now I am happy. Thank you again !!!
