The Fake Birthday

Jodi Milner is eagerly awaiting her 13th birthday and can’t wait to throw herself into the challenging seventh grade social scene. The horoscope fanatic has designed her life around being a Scorpio, but things aren’t working out as expected. What lies ahead for Jodi unfolds in this new page-turning middle-grade novel, The Fake Birthday. In a light and amusing manner, the story addresses the issues of lying, materialism, popularity and the angst of budding romance. The reader meets Jodi’s family and friends as her daily astrological forecasts backfire. The story climaxes when Jodi learns she has a “fake birthday”. The pre-teen’s world begins to unravel, plunging her into an identity crisis with explosive consequences. Discovering the truth about her birthday is a turning point that leads to a series of revelations and adventures that even the stars could not have predicted. In the end, Jodi realizes that it takes more than one’s birth date to shape the whole person.

My daughter and I read `The Fake Birthday' together. We both loved it! Jodi is a fun character to spend time with, and her adventures (and misadventures) kept us giggling `til the end. Highly recommended!

5Teachers and Parents will approve!  Feb 07, 2009
From time to time, I read Kid Lit for my daughter who teaches at the junior high level. Sometimes she needs to say, "Just Read, pleeeeeeeez!" to gain a few moments of sanity. Naturally, that directive works best if her 7th graders enjoy the reading. "The Fake Birthday" is a perfect fit: one ounce of morality play, one pound of relationship and communication insight, and a ton of creative fun.

5Fresh Characters, Original Concept -- What a Fun Book!  Jan 31, 2009
I'm always looking for books to get my nieces and their friends reading, and this one is right on target for the 'Hannah Montana' audience. The characters are real, and are people that are fun to spend time with. The humor and situations weren't forced. Yes, lessons are learned, but you're not hit over the head with them. I also liked that you couldn't predict what was going to happen next -- definitely a page turner! A breezy read; the kind you read over lunch because you hate to put it down.

I sincerely hope that this is the first of a series. We hated to see it end!
