The Final War and 3001: Birth of a Political Renaissance

What would happen if unrestrained religious fanaticism expanded worldwide? Could two religious zealots―a self-aggrandizing Baptist preacher and a Catholic Cardinal scheming to become Pope―subvert our Constitution and rule with Biblical dogma? Add the enemy of Christianity--Islamic despots from the Middle East and Africa-- to this terrifying scenario, and we have the war to end all wars. In Priscilla Herochik’s convincing and unsettling futuristic political novel, The Final War and 3001―Birth of a Political Renaissance, these scenarios unfold with disturbing ease. This novel compels us to think hard about where our world is heading. It reminds us of the need to pay close attention to those countries, including our own, where organized religion overwhelms and dictates to the citizenry. In this two-part novel, we see the devastation of global war, then the struggle for humankind to recreate society one thousand years later. The story is fascinating; the message is utterly imperative.

5Final War and 3001  Dec 06, 2009
By Ellen P. Lafleche-christian
The Final War and 3001 is a captivating read. I stayed up late several nights because I just couldn't put the book down. The first part of the book details the "past" which is basically prior to 3001 and includes the war that happens in 2050. It's a mixture of facts from our past and fiction made up by the author. I enjoyed the way she mixed real facts in with the story since it made it seem all the more possible. This section takes you from 2020 to somewhere between the war of 2050 and the future of 3001. It details the rise to power of those that caused the war, what happened to destroy the world & how the few survivors survived after the war.

The second part of the book details what happens from 3001 forward. After the war, the next generations are more simplistic. I won't go into details because I don't want to ruin the book but suffice it to say crime, violence, greed and all the ills of the world have disappeared. The book discusses secular humanism in detail and how it applies to the future.

I really enjoyed reading this book. The first part of the book is loaded with suspense and I had a hard time putting it down. The second part was a little more "fluffy" than I cared for and secular humanism is not really my thing but it was still very readable and enjoyable.

The book won't provide details of how to survive but it certainly makes you think about possible scenarios and options.

5Incredible Book--A MUST have!!  Sep 25, 2009
By crownvic90210 "crownvic90120"
Wow! I didn't expect much from this book, because it's not the type of book I usually read. A coworker recommended it to me and I grudgingly picked up a copy so I could have something fresh and different to read at my lunch hour. It usually takes me a few weeks to finish a book. I'm a slow poke with them. This book, my gosh, I could hardly put it down! You will be hanging at the edge of your seat to see what happens next.
I love to hate the evil priest. I loved to hate the Reverend and his ways.
The title says Birth of a Political Renaissance on it, but, don't let that turn you off. It's not just some political book. (I'm not into politics OR religion, for that matter so at first glance, I didn't think this book would thrill me-but I was oh so wrong!)
This book has romance, action, family, suspense, political and social topics, ethics....it has so much rolled into one!
You won't regret buying this book! I don't! I'm reading it for the second time now!

5My Favorite Gift  Nov 29, 2009
By NannyTrutru80901
I got this book as an early Hanukkah gift from my son and his wife when they came to visit me for Thanksgiving with the grandkids. I read it on Thanksgiving night to help me go to sleep. It didn't help me get to sleep. It kept me up. I was up into the wee hours reading it. It was packed with suspense and drama. It was a good book I couldn't put down. I finished it in 24 hours. I probably should have spent more time with my family but I couldn't help myself. Sorry Stanny! Sorry Abby! Sorry Rachelle, Tommy, & Adam! Nanny is sorry! I loved the gift though!

5Could the fervent beliefs of the world and those who abuse them ultimately be the world's demise?  Jan 09, 2010
By Midwest Book Review
Could the fervent beliefs of the world and those who abuse them ultimately be the world's demise? "The Final War and 3001" tells the story of how corrupt religious leaders, in this case a Baptist evangelist and a power hungry Cardinal, lead the world down a path that when putting heads against Islamic powers may finally bring about a final peace - by making sure there's no one to fight wars anymore. "The Final War and 3001" is a topical blend of religious debate and the conflict makes for an entertaining read.

5Good Read  Nov 29, 2009

I thoroughly enjoyed reading The Final War and 3001. I favored the first segment over the second but as a whole it was a good good book.
My favorite character was the Evil Caldras and his warped ways. I enjoyed seeing what plot he would come up with next.
It was well worth the $18 and I'm hoping for a sequel.
