Too good to put down May 24, 2008
By Tony Tedaldi Thank you, Jerry Bayne. I devoured your book. It's great to pick up a book you can't put down. The author takes us on a unique and satisfying trip. You take a deep breath start reading and don't exhale till the end.
I am looking forward to his next project.

This Guy Jerry Bayne Writes Scary Stuff Apr 16, 2008
By Zachary Hackett I got an e-mail asking me if I'd like a copy of this book to review and I declined as my reading list is long and it's far to the end. That was a mistake. Sara's friend Dani Lane got the same e-mail and she accepted the book. Two pages into it and she decided it was something I had to see, so she overnighted it to me via FedEx, with a note telling me to read it straightaway and get it back to her. "It is," she said, "Your kind of book."
The book got to me after all and now I was forced to read it. I was a bit ticked off, but I have tremendous respect for Dani, as I do all of my wife's college pals, so I put Sketches of Spain in the CD player, lay down on the couch and started to read and was I ever blown away. This Jerry Bayne guy writes scary stuff. Dani was right, the book was right up my ally.
From the Murder of Robert Sacks in the first chapter to the, well I can't tell you what happened in the last chapter, that would be spoiling and I'm no spoiler. Suffice it to say there is evil afoot, gathering souls. The Church knows it, the cops find out about it, but can anybody stop it. And I couldn't stop reading, I really couldn't.
Okay, book finished, I loved every page of it and now it was time to send it back to Dani, so she could review it. However, sadly for her, my friend Gary Pierre was visiting from Trinidad and he picked up the book and started to read and I'm sure he's still reading it now even as his plane is winging it's way across the fruited plain toward the gorgeous Caribbean where more than a few tales of evil and the supernatural abide. I can't help but wonder is Gary bringing the germ of a new legend to those tropical islands.
So Jerry, if you're reading this, I'm sorry Dani can't review your book right now and I hope you'll accept mine in it's stead. The book will come back eventually. And Dani, I'm sorry you didn't get to read the book, but as I just told Jerry, the book will come back, then I'll get it to you.

Taught Thriller May 12, 2008
By Vin Smith
"Book Show Radio Host"
Jerry Bayne nails the genre, as with a sledgehammer. Never losing a grip on the storyline, Bayne takes us from one tense moment to another. Avoiding the talkiness that first novelists sometimes get caught up in, Bayne instead treats us to a thriller that reads like it came from the pen of le Carre, Brown, or Ludlum. If we are lucky, we will see more of Mike Sims, about as intrepid a detective as you would want to follow. But it's the side characters, such as Dr. Blake, Brother Peasely, Father Daniel--and the ancient scroll! The scroll becomes another character, and adds to the mystique of the story. Page turner deluxe!

Great Book! Apr 24, 2008
By Shirley Priscilla Johnson
"Author/Reviewer - Florida"
I always love a book that starts out with a grabber and this one definitely had it with the weird murder of Robert Sacks. Creepy. I loved it.
As I continued on with the read I met the rest of the main characters. Detective Mike Sims, who I immediately liked.
Doctor Cary Blake, who worked with Robert Sacks. Father Daniel, and Brother Peasley, Doctor Tony Ortex, a forensics doctor and of course His Eminence..All the main characters in place the read took me for a ride that I won't soon forget.
An ancient scroll has been found at a dig in Italy. Now this was not an ordinary scroll, but one that has Occult power, powers that were already invading the world, and if not stopped would bring evil that mankind had not seen for a very long time. The scroll must be deciphered and time is of the essence. Can Dr. Blake, Father Daniels and Brother Peasley understand its meaning in time? And what about the second scroll, how important is it to what is happening?
It is very difficult to review this work without giving away the storyline so that is as far as I am going to go with it.
However, this is one fantastic book. The author does an outstanding job with the character description making each one of them personal and quite alive in your mind's eye. You really feel as if you know these people.
He also does a great job merging them together within the storyline, giving each one the importance of their presence and the definite need for them to be there.
Jerry Bayne laces this work with mystery, keeping you guessing and wondering when another murder will happen and will this group of courageous people be able to stop the evil. I loved the joining of the church and the police as they fought together trying to unravel what was happening. I also liked the element of romance that was brought into the story.
I'll tell you, this was a real page turner, and one that kept me glued to the pages until I finished the read.
I am proud to give this my highest recommendation. Very well done, exceptional.

AN INTERESTING MIX OF INVESTIGATIVE ACTION & THE SUPERNATURAL Apr 12, 2008
By NeuroSplicer We live in world still in the long shadows of mysteries and the unknown. Science is our attempt to understand and control our environment yet what we do not know is still greater than what we know. This is the niche where the GATHERER thrives.
Jerry Bayne has solid writing skills, with image-creating descriptions and natural dialogs. The plot advances in a page-turning rhythm and, overall, it is a yarn you will probably enjoy too.
The history of self-published authors include many one-hit wonders but also success stories such as Matthew Reilly. I would dare to predict that Bayne could easily become the later.
