This book changed my life and transformed my marriage. It's a must have for every strong-willed woman. Following these principles has given me so much more freedom and taken away much of the stress I had put on myself. By allowing my husband to take the lead in our family, God promoted him in ways that I never imagined and allowed me to leave the corporate world and become a teacher. It has become my standard bridal shower gift.

I have read & re-read this book. It stays on my nighttand for when I need reminders of how I can enjoy the best that God has for me and my marriage by acting with a pure heart which is aimed at pleasing Him!! I encourage each & every one of you to take the time - read the book - apply the lessons - you will NOT be disappointed. I even had the awesome opportunity to enjoy meeting with Karen over a period of weeks for a small group study of her book and that added even more insight into the things that I have done (and am still doing - this is not an instant cure!!) which have undermined my heart's desire to have a Godly marriage. Read the book!! (Then watch for her next one about the idols of our heart!!)

I am a licensed clinical social worker and am pursuing training in biblical counseling as well. We are in the process of establishing a counseling ministry at my church and I was on Amazon searching for a book for wives who are discouraged, defeated. I ordered this book after reading previous reviews about it. It arrived and I opened it around 5pm, and I finished it the same night. I was very pleased with the extensive use of scripture throughout the book. I read it quickly (this time) as I wanted to pass it along to other women. Almost every frustration they share with me was addressed in this book. It is so easy to see only a husband's sin and abdication, not our own sin and responsibility. This book will be transforming for women who long to follow God's lead but do not know how to see beyond their struggles right now. We can argue all day long about feelings, who's right, responsibility, etc. But scripture cuts through our arguments and gets to the truth of our sin. This book points wives to God as the healer of relationships and provides hope for those who earnestly seek to glorify God in their marriages.

I've been married 21 years now, and I've been a pastor for 21 years. I've also been doing biblical counseling for over 15 years now - with marriage being 85-90% of all the counseling I do, and so I can say, "We needed this book!" It's not just another marriage book. Praise God for what Karen has put into writing. She has put into words the struggle that so often exists but doesn't get addressed. I see this struggle so often in marriages - but I've never had a great resource to put into the woman's hand that could guide her in making practical changes to let her husband lead (Of course I was already hammering away on the men with great resources like Lou Priolo's 'Complete Husband' and Doug Wilson's 'Fidelity').
This is a NOT a basic marriage book. There's no chapter on communication, or sex, or in-laws, or parenting. This is focused solely on an area that desparately needs to be addressed, and Karen has done a great job.
This is also NOT a book that is pushing the old 'shut up and submit and just serve your husband' concept. This is a biblical approach to what it really means for a gifted and Spirit-filled woman to still be all that she can be... without 'taking over' and leading.
She gives specific examples and scenarios of exactly what she's talking about, then walks you through what it would look like to do what she's asking you to do in your marriage. Karen and her husband, Jim, have given us a great gift in allowing us to look into their own struggles, and to see what God has done for them, and what God has taught them that they can pass on to the rest of us.
It took real humility to peel back the cover of their lives and allow us to look in as Karen describes what God has done for them, and can do for so many others.
You're going to want to get this book... read it... and get copies to give away to others. As I read it I was making my 'list' of who I could use this great resource with.

Seriously, girls - it doesn't get any better than this book for Christian wives. My husband and I will celebrate our 20th anniversary this month. My husband's light-hearted joke in response to the occasional question, "how long have you two been married?" is usually, "12 good years." If I'd had this book during our first year of marriage, we would both be able to count all 20 years as good! This book is smart, relevant, and practical. It is not religious, traditional, or "churchy." Definitely not the same old, same old. I've been part of a small group of neighborhood women going through this book together. Many of us have been committed Christians for a long time and have "heard it all" on marriage for Christian wives. But we've never heard what Haught brings to the table. Best of all, the strategies Haught has discovered through her own life and walk with God, are completely Scriptural and totally able to be applied immediately in very practical ways using tangible tools to improve the marriage relationship in God-honoring, non-manipulative ways that do not humiliate or deny women their God-given gifts, strengths, and calling. What more could you ask for? Buy this book - read it - use it, and start to enjoy being a wife and lover again!
