Great for kids and parents alike! Dec 11, 2008
By R. Miller This book is great for kids - but amusing for their parents too. Took me back to when I was 12. It's a good, upbeat book about REAL characters that kids can relate to.
Highly recommended!

A terrific book for pre-teens Dec 05, 2008
By zykcon The Great Adventures of Clare Connelly is a fun read, especially for pre-teen girls. Finally an appropriate story for this age group! Even parents will enjoy reading this with the kids, as they follow the active imagination of the book's main character. But beyond the fun factor, it is a lovely story of family, friendship, and believing in yourself.
Also nice to know that the author is donating a portion of the book's holiday sales to support our troop's families.

A fun and absorbing read! Feb 19, 2009
By I. Tepelmann This book hooked me at once and then reeled me in; I could not put it down until I finished it.
If you are, will be, or ever have been, a twelve-year old girl, you will identify, at least in some way, to the lead character, Clare. She's a thoughtful, independent-minded and compassionate youngster with a defiant streak and a yearning for adventure and excitement. Yet, an ever-present twinge of self-doubt seems to hold her back.
Told from Clare's perspective, we are privy to her personal thoughts and feelings, experiencing first-hand her fears, struggles and disappointments, as well as her joys and triumphs, too, as she navigates her way through the many challenges presented by life in Middle School. The Middle School setting is so carefully crafted, it draws you into her world and you feel as though you are really there. I chuckled at some of the funny situations she finds herself in!
The persuasive plot unfolds through (and is tied together nicely by) Clare drifting into and out of a series of daydreams colored with heroism and adventure. At first the daydreams seem to be only escapist in nature, but as the story develops, we understand they also play a more positive role in helping to spur Clare on to overcome her fears and begin creating the life she wants for herself.
I found a number of compelling and timeless messages in this book, the most persuasive for me being this: Never let anyone undermine your confidence or discourage you from following your dreams!
There are, of course, many other things to be gleaned from this fun and hopeful story, not the least of which is the enduring and gratifying nature of true friendship. We also learn about her particular experience as a child of divorced parents and we get a taste, too, for what her life is like as the child of a Bed and Breakfast Inn owner on the breezy shores of the Chesapeake Bay in Annapolis, Maryland.
I enjoyed this - it's a fun and absorbing read. I will see that both my nieces get a chance to enjoy it, too!
One question: Will there be more? I'd be interested in following more great adventures of Clare Connelly!

The Great Adventures of Clare Connelly Review Jan 12, 2009
By D.C. Soccer Mom My daughter loves reading and I can tell how much she enjoys a book by how much time she devotes to reading it. Needless to say, she finished this book in just 2 days!
My daughter liked "how Clare daydreamed a lot". My daughter had a vivid imagination and this book was right up her alley. Especially since Clare is not much older than her. It's nice to be able to read a book with characters my daughter can relate to.
TWO THUMBS UP!!!

This is a great book for pre-teen girls. It's charming and funny and has a very imaginative story. I started it myself and ended up reading the entire book - it was really fun and sweet. I got it for a friend's 9-year-old daughter and she loved it too! It's sure to please the 9- to 12-year-old girls in your life. Highly recommended.
