A slam-bang action yarn--check it out! Jan 06, 2009
By Tracker Written with a sure hand that understands his characters and their circumstances, The Handler is a can't-miss combination of action and suspense--plus it provides a great introduction to Matt Fagan, who could easily become a private eye in the best tradition of Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer, Robert Parker's Spenser, and John D. MacDonald's Travis McGee. Cady's plot barrels toward its breathtaking conclusion with the swiftness and power of the Tennessee River which provides its setting. A must-read!

Pulled Me In and Wouldn't Let Me Go Jan 10, 2009
By Steve Miller Being more of a nonfiction reader, what drew me into this story and wouldn't let me go until I had read the last word? In part, it was the fascinating settings - the powerful Tennessee River, a houseboat, a cave - places I knew well in the Southeast and could easily visualize. Then there were the unforgettable characters - I was intrigued with them - from the sweet and dignified to the practical and fearless to the conniving and dangerous. And isn't everyone intrigued with the motivations of cult leaders and their followers? Finally, the story progressed with such speed and intensity that I simply had to keep picking it back up to find out what would happen next. Great story. Highly recommended.

By Dutchie Cowser Great book that has it all...a must read for anyone that has grown up or spent time in the south.
Exciting, educational, and entertaining Dec 06, 2008
By NWGA Dawg This is an excellent novel. It is educational because it informs us of the phenomenon of snake handling religious cults. It is entertaining because it is a "page turning" thriller. Mr. Cady has obviously done his research on these cults and has written a novel of exceptional depth, perception, and excitement. I highly recommend it!

Been There Nov 20, 2008
By Hoyle D. Hyberger
"BookEater"
Having grown up in East Tennessee, I can recall my grandfather facing a group of snake handlers on the courthouse square in a small town just north of the area where this action in THE HANDLER takes place. The preacher and his church members on that Saturday afternoon held their Bibles in one hand and snakes in the other. Author David Cady has painted a true picture of this era. The people who lived and died in THE HANDLER are part of a cult that is driven by sex, greed, ignorance, and lust for power in the South during the middle of the past century. The hero in HANDLER is a returned Viet Nam vet who is looking for a new start for his troubled life. Matt enters the world of this mid century cult as a hired detective who is looking for the run-away child of a beautiful but troubled mother. In searching for a lost daughter, Matt finds more than he had hoped for. This is an excellent read for those who like adventure served up on a plate of fast action which is clothed in reality.
