Great Alternative Roles for Girls Ages 8-12 Mar 31, 2000
The Handy Girls came out in the 70's, before the Babysitter'sClub books. This book involves a (multicultural) group of girls thatforms a club to fix things. Some paint, some build doghouses, andthey get satisfaction helping people by working with their hands. Drawings are a little dated, like textbooks drawings of the 60's and 70's, but the spirit is totally modern - it's great to see a children's book where the girls are self-directed and down-to-earth.

Great Role Models! May 06, 2008
By Mary M. Schwartz The Handy Girls Can Fix It!: 2008 Edition
The "Handy Girls" promote pure girl power! The book reveals how girls and boys can gain a sense of pride and accomplishment through active and creative play -- and shows the value of helping others through teamwork!
I still have my copy of this book from when I was seven Apr 23, 2011
By Matthew Bullock My mother got me this book as a child. I loved it. It really helped me to see that if you are determined you can learn how to do anything. I have been fixing things my entire life. I am now a handy woman for my job. It also teaches kids that we shouldn't just automatically throw things away. They might be repairable. In our throw away happy world kids need to learn that!
Girls Can Do It Too! Mar 03, 2010
By S. Baker-Johnson For ages 6-10, a group of girls whose "fix-it" shop specializes in mechanics, painting and other repairs helps two preschool boys build a clubhouse. This book affirms female abilities and serves as a great role model.

I'm the co-creator of Handy Girls! Dec 27, 2006
By Mary M. Schwartz I'm so glad to see that both of the "Handy Girls" books are still available. It's unbelievable that our $1.99 book is selling for over $50! We're hoping to get the books published online and will let all "Handy Girls" fans know the progress! Thank you so much for continuing to support this ahead-of-its-time concept for girls. We believe it's still as viable today as it was 20 years ago!
