The Happy Moments: Moving Out of Anxiety and Depression

After the death of his mother from cancer, Shawn tried to cope with the loss by picking up the pieces and moving on. Little did he know that within a few months he would go from living a normal life as a college student to becoming trapped inside his own hellish nightmare. Help came in the form of a veteran ex-sufferer, an unconventional psychologist, and a natural health practitioner. With their guidance, he was shown simple, innovative techniques that enabled him to get beyond his own life-altering illness. Today, in his writings and through online discussion groups, he reaches out to those who deal with stress, panic/anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, and depersonalization disorders. In The Happy Moments: Moving out of Anxiety and Depression, Shawn shares his story and the 25 free & effective techniques that anyone can use to start creating a happy life.

3Adequate, average, less than inspiring.  Jan 07, 2012

I just finished reading this book. I read almost all of the reviews ( all of them 5 stars!!) and thought OK I'll get it it. While certainly far from a 5 star, it is fine, and I probably picked up a couple tips that I will try to use in trying to shake off my down mood. Just a bit too "cliched" or weak attempts at trying to be funny/ hip, or something, is what irked me while reading this book. I feel compelled to share that this is not a OMG you gotta read this kind of book. I wish I knew one for all of us suffering from depression... I,m still looking for a great one. To the author: thanks for a good book, but I couldn't give you five stars.

5Love this book!  Oct 02, 2011

Read the Kindle edition in 2 sittings. I must say that when I first saw this book on the list of search results, I was a bit skeptical to read it. I read the reviews (ALL of them!) and because *every* single review was 5 stars, I figured it just *had* to be good, right? So, I purchased it. I must tell you I am so incredibly happy that I gave this book a shot. Reading Shawn's story was like he interviewed me personally for the book. His descriptions and stories are exactly how I am/was feeling. The way he delivered information was very good. I liked that he kept everything in "simple" terms. I tend to get bored with overly-medical referenced things. He kept his writing simple and clean. If you are hesitating in any way buying this book, please please please give it a try.

5A must have for anyone suffering from anxiety.  Aug 01, 2011

I. Love. This. Book. I have read numerous books on anxiety and none made sense like this one. Shawn does an awesome job at describing his experiences and for me, I felt like I was there in his shoes. Some parts I laughed. Some parts I cried. All in all, I love the fact he was himself through out the book. I didn't feel like I was reading some self help book written by some psychologist or Dr. who has never actually experienced anxiety. Awesome work, Shawn! I hope to see more from you in the future! :)

2NICE PERSONAL STORY, BUT NOTHING NEW HERE  Jan 16, 2012
By joyandjerry "joyandjerry"
I. too, purchased this after seeing all of the glowing fives star reviews. Next time I will "research" my purchases more carefully. The five star reviewers reviewed ONLY this book and nothing else, leading me to believe that they were put there by the author or publisher to try to increase sales.

Even though this states the book is 208 pages, fifty of these pages do not have text. 25 have the "secrets" (one each) on them, and 25 are blank. This "filler" material is a pet peeve of mine in any book.

While his story is inspirational, I agree with the reviewer that stated he was try to be "hip" (as the frequent use of profanity indicated) and humorous. The "secrets" are mainly common sense advice, such as exercise, keep smiling, etc. The author feels that acupuncture and EFT (a type of self-administered pressure point acupuncture) released his blocked energy and helped to produce a cure.

I'm returning this to Amazon. There is nothing really new here, IMO.

5Surprisingly good insights  Nov 10, 2011

I have read many books written for anxiety and depression and thought this book would be more of the same old, conventional psychobabble. To my surprise and relief, this book turned out to be truly exceptional, beginning with the author's own story -which was humorous and quite fascinating. The Happy Moments shared at the end of the book are all cited with research studies to back up each point. This book was refreshing and will be enjoyed by anyone interested in real life solutions to address anxiety and depression.
