5Wonderful memories.  Jun 06, 2009
Doug Hiser has done a great job of capturing the best parts of Santa Fe, Texas and describing them in only a way that a young, adventurous boy growing up there could. He gives great, beautiful detail to everything that he describes and I saw my hometown in a whole new light. It reminded me of what a wonderful place it was to grow up in and how everything must change. It was also a very sweet love story.

5Touching, exciting, amazing...  Apr 07, 2009
I just finished The Honey Bee Girl and if I hadn't been here at school, I would have cried. What a touching, exciting, amazing story! I absolutely loved it! I'm a slow reader but for me I read this book fast! Doug Hiser is an incredibly talented writer and is doing exactly what he should be doing -- sharing his stories with us! I grew up in Santa Fe so I'm going to spend a weekend driving around to find all the old hang-out spots. This book brought back many memories from high school and childhood.

5The Honey Bee Girl  Feb 21, 2009
I really love The Honey Bee Girl. I read a chapter a night and I can hardly put it down. It reminds me of my childhood in Pleasant Hope, Mo, where I had a kindred spirit with a boy in that small town. Doug Hiser is a great story teller. I recommend everyone to read this book. You will truly enjoy it.

5a real winner  May 06, 2006
I really enjoyed reading this book. I found myself lost in the description of the town and the era. It was a good feeling to think about how things use to be, and at the same time wish they hadn't changed. The main character is human and likable. I hoped, as I read, that things would work out for him. The book is well written and keeps the attention.

5I miss my childhood, too!  Apr 25, 2006
Doug,
I spent my Sunday afternoon glued to Honey Bee Girl !! It was a wonderful uplifting and inspiring piece of work!! Words can't describe how I felt as I drifted within the world of innocence, love and adventure. It is still echoing in my mind. It had a profound affect on me. I DO miss my childhood today. Again, thanks for the words.
Sincerely,
Rene
p.s. My husband, JB, is looking forward to reading it, also!
p.s.s. I wanted to go for a ride through old Santa Fe, but it has been taken over by the present.
