Not bad, not bad at all... Jan 27, 2009

House of Time... Jul 15, 2010
By JamieGuinan The House of Time is actually a few loosely interwoven stories, taking place around a fictional New England coast and island setting. Mystery, romance, and drama, with rich imagery of the sandy and salty terrain, the rugged fishing and lobstering life, and the alternately quiet and bustling town life.
There were moments that literally gave me chills, and others that were startlingly shocking, but the thread of the main character's quest to understand the events in his life is what keeps the reader engaged.
Overall, a fine first novel, and a good read for anyone who has a taste for New England, or mysteries in general.
Disclaimer: I knew the author a number of years ago, and we are Facebook friends.
Vastly Entertaining Oct 05, 2009
By J. Leahy In House of Time; David Brinning has provided his readers a simple but richly descriptive and engrossing read that is full of unexpected twists and turns. The book revolves around the life of the protaganist - Dave Wyman a semi-retied biologist, living on a small island in Maine and the events encountered there that would change his life, and those he knew forever.
I wondered during my first sitting where exactly does the dream end and reality begin but the author craftfully lets the events unfold that keeps you guessing. Brinning's vivd description of the sea and island life and his ability to describe the nuances of lobstering, boating, avaiation and even the intracasies of the island ferry lead one to assume he is drawing from personal experiences. I wasn't sure where he was "taking me" through the first 2/3rd of the novel but when I did get there it just seemed right.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and found that the characheters of The House of Time resonated long after I closed the book.
