Fantastic and Original Work Jun 12, 2009
By Books Are Great The Kapellmeister Conspiracy is almost 2 books in one that are masterfully intertwined. Michael Martel has a true understanding of Mozart's Europe. All the details of the time are exquisitely described and draw the reader into a time of mystery and intrigue. The author fades seamlessly between the late 1700s and the early 1980s. The plot turns are suspenseful the mysteries are plausible and the characters are completely believable. I cannot begin to describe the compelling feeling one gets while reading this welcoming novel. Martel is new author to me, but I will certainly be watching for his name. I believe he has also written a compilation of sea stories (Tales From a Gimbaled Wrist)

DaVinci Code Meets Amadeus Jun 11, 2010
By William A. Strauss Michael Martel's The Kapellmeister Conspiracy is a true page turner - the story jumps between the late 1700s and the contemporary period. The story involves a modern day treasure hunt for a priceless antiquity. The story speeds ahead at a frenetic pace. The back story, set nearly 200 years earlier, is told with solid writing that clearly illustrates the immenense amount of work Mr. Martel must have done in order to get thing right. The writing takes you traveling back to an period that was full of intrigue and it all seems very plausible. It feels just like you are walking the streets of Europe in the eighteenth century. I would love to reveal more, but the title of the book has the word Conspiracy so you will have to find out the rest on your own.
With summer just around the corner, this is a wonderful book that you will find very satisfying. I can't wait for Mr. Martel to come out with his next book.
