The Kingdom of Colors: Indra's Jewels

One day, on her eighth birthday, Indra discovers that she sees things differently from everyone else in the kingdom. A surprising afternoon in the poppy field makes her realize that there is much, much more to the history of the Kingdom of Colors than ever imagined. What is so different about this kingdom? What happened to make it that way? And how will it ever be restored to its original state? Indra’s Jewels, the first in The Kingdom of Colors series, is a magical adventure that shows children and adults how to celebrate their natural gifts of intuition and creativity—the very essence of life’s wonder. It marks the beginning of a little girl’s heroic adventure to discover her purpose and her ultimate realization that she cannot reach her own dreams without the help of other people. At the higher level, it is a story about hope and connection. It is about losing all that is so precious in our own humanity – and the journey to get it back.

5An imaginative and refreshing story  Jul 15, 2009
By G Francis
I bought this book for my daughter, who is 10. I was amazed by what I discovered within its beautiful pages (and particularly impressed because it is a self-published author, first making me cautious to purchase). The illustrations are captivating and my daughter and I found ourselves looking at them over and over again. It is not a picture book in the true sense and reads more like a storybook for slightly older children - although my younger son also joined in on our fun. While the story is a bit slow-moving at times, it is entirely original and refreshing. I found it overall to be magical, mysterious and thought-provoking. The book is rich with beautiful, universal themes and values that translate into a variety of situations. My daughter loves Indra, the main character, and the questions in the back of this book even provided learning for me! I don't want to ruin it for anybody - but it ends like it begins, with mystery and magic! We need more books like this that go slightly off the beaten path...but still provide a wondrous journey.

5Better than expected  Aug 01, 2009
By J. Gaines
This book stretched both mine and my child's imagination! It does leave it hanging a bit at the end - so hurry up with the second one! I was amazed at how curious my child became with each turning page. Wanting to know why this and why that. I loved the questions in the back - it helped me to do my job as a parent and explore the meaning.

Great for parents who like to work through ideas with their children. I wouldn't suggest this for someone below six. Beautiful illustrations!
