The Last Rite

Maggie Stuart, a thirteen year old girl, is kidnapped from her suburban life by an ancient creature who calls himself only "Char." In his testing ground, she begins to develop strange new powers - the ability to read minds, to manipulate emotions and perceptions. Caught between Char and his vicious children as they struggle for power, Maggie has to learn to beat her captor at his own game, and protect the innocents involved: Jason, Aaron, and Scott, students from her school who have also fallen into Char's clutches, and a little albino boy called Peter, who has supernatural abilities of his own. When her favorite teacher Mr. Hunt arrives in Char's subterranean catacombs, Maggie assumes he is there to save her. But Hunt is playing his own game, and Maggie doesn't know if he will be an ally, or her worst enemy of all. As her mother and father race across country to find their daughter, and a hardened detective dogs their tracks, Maggie struggles to overcome her fear of what she has become, which may be the biggest barrier standing between herself and freedom.
