Surprising Change in the Series Nov 22, 2009
By Dutch Orange I was surprised by the direction Alec's story took in this book. although he was a loner in the last book, this story had moments of that same characteristic, but then when he got to Stronghold and met the Locksforts, he started being a social person again (and it was an unexpected surprise to find so many good folks among the Locksforts - I expected the whole group to be bad guys, but the story painted them as a more complex clan whose members have individual personalities). Rescuing Noranda had seemed to be the ultimate goal of Alec's adventures back in the earlier novels, but by the time he leaves Stronghold, it's clear that there is much more he has to do, and the majority of the book carries him towards accomplishment of those other adventures. The interaction with Rosebay was a plot twist that seemd to come out of left field, and caught me by surprise. I'm not sure it was fleshed out completely in this book, but there are hints of more to come. All in all, this is another quick and easy read, an enjoyable addition to the Ingenairii series, and it maintains many of the characters I like from earlier books, while adding some new favorites.

Keep the Series Going! Dec 31, 2009
By Alicia Harding This is another book in the series about Alec and the ingenairii, and once upon a time, I would have thought that this would be the end of the series, because Alec finally comes face-to-face with one of his great goals in life - finding Noranda and trying to heal her. But when that opportunity finally happens, it's only halfway through the book. As it turns out, the rest of the book brings some exciting new adventures, and a couple of very surprising plot twists. I am desperate to read the next book now to find out what happens next for Alec! The writing continues to keep the books moving quickly - I like the fact that this series of books is written to be an easy, relaxing read. This is a good series of books to entertain.

Another book to love in the series Apr 18, 2010
By Gene The story keeps following Alec as he works his way around every corner of the Dominion, following his assigned quest to save Noranda. As it turns out, he uses a nifty piece of ingenairii healing power to bring her back to life, but that is only the beginning of the book. At the start of this series I would have expected that point to be the ultimate and concluding stage in the story, but instead this series has evolved, and after he fulfills his healing work in Stronghold, Alec goes back to Oyster Bay for a bittersweet reunion with Bethany, and then marches off to wage war for Goldenfields with his own army at his back. I fully enjoy the way this story keeps moving forward, and the way characters stay consistently available to return for meaningful roles in the novels - Imelda for instance shows up again, and turns into the pivotal character who Alec is with for the last quarter of the book. There's a good proportion of action to keep the story interesting, and there's at least two plot twists that brought fresh energy to this novel as I read it. Thoroughly enjoyable!
Another page turner! Jul 07, 2010
By JSC The fourth volume in this series is just as readable and engaging as the first three. At this point the characters are fully developed and so the plot is the real engine behind the story. The sequence of events showcase the author's imagination and certainly his fondness for this universe he has created; the reader will be delighted joining on for the ride. The main character, Alec, is starting to show some real fundamental human flaws, which means he is really growing up and no longer just acting like an adult to survive. It is a charming, sad and gentle evolution as he learns that losing power is an even bigger test than gaining it. I am hoping for the satisfaction of an end to this story and that Quyle will bring all the loose ends in for a conclusion in the next book. Then he can get to work on a sequel!
