I am such a fan of chick lit that I was thrilled to discover an actualy chick lit book that I had somehow overlooked.
The List is a "true" chick lit - in fact, the author acknowledges that her novel is all chick lit - which, of course, made me incredibly happy!
So, why the 3 star rating? The book is, unfortunately, a little bit boring AND incedibly predictable. In fact, I had the ending figured out by about page 20 of the book, which seriously removed the pleasure of reading the storyline for me.
Of course, chick lit is not known for its intricate plotlines, but this one was so basic and easy to figure out that it felt a little bit like an insult.
I did enjoy the various description of dates the main character went on - as anyone who has ever dated could certainly identify with this part of the book. The friendship with the 3 women was also fun, however, the rest of the book falls short on some level.

Warning: may cause you to work out too long! ;) Feb 14, 2009
By Renee I like to read while I'm exercising. For me a really good book is one where I'm so into the story I don't pay attention to the timer on the machine. Well this book is a really good book! I ended up so into the story that I exercised way past my usual time...now my legs are sore! Too bad I've finished, I could have lost another size! ;)

By Kathlynn M. Ruddy I had the honor of meeting the author before I read this book and when I found out what the book was about I just had to get it. I was not disappointed. I loved the book.
A highly-entertaining read Jun 15, 2009
By Cassandra Carr Carmen Shirkey's The List is a quick read, but that's good - it's hard to put it down. It's the story of Candace, a girl all of us can relate to: she wants to fall in love, but she's been on so many bad dates she's getting discouraged. She decides making a list of the qualities she wants in a man is the best thing to do - that way, if a guy doesn't meet her criteria, she doesn't have to waste her time with him. Who out in Readerland hasn't done that, at least mentally?
Candace meets two guys, one that is so close to her list she's quickly enamored of him, and another, who just keeps failing her tests. As she navigates through her relationships with these two men, she learns a lot about herself and what kind of person she wants to be. When she finally figures herself out, the choice of who will have her heart is simple.
The author has a clear, brisk style of storytelling, and the book moves along well without any lulls or superfluous plot lines. The reader is able to identify with and root for Candace from early on, and the two heroes are interesting juxtapositions. Overall, this is a highly-entertaining novel from a promising new author.
enjoyed the story... Jun 07, 2009
By LAD While I enjoyed the story, I have to say that I find it hard to understand how a book can be published with the word "desert" used instead of "dessert" several times in the book. One of my elementary school teachers told us " you could eat two desserts but could never eat two deserts". There were other issues with the book that made me wonder who edited this book. But, like I said, I enjoyed the storyline.
