A Must-Have Book! May 02, 2009 This is a simple, grandfatherly narrative of a WWII veteran's experiences overseas, brought to life by sensitive and gifted artwork. By the time you turn the last page, you will want to hug this precious gentleman and his wife. Stories such as these MUST be remembered and taught to the children of our nation.

heart warming story Apr 27, 2009 This is a heartwarming feel good story. What a wonderful account of turning something bad (war) into something good. I would encourage both adults and children to read this book. A MUST HAVE!!!!
Simply Beautiful Mar 29, 2009 This book is written with clarity and simplicity with awesome illustrations. A heartwarming personal account of a man's love of his country through his hobby. It's educational in so many ways. A beautiful addition to any school and/or family bookshelf. The impressive illustrations enhance the message of the storyteller....hopefully there are more books like this on the horizon.

A Homeschooler's Review Mar 19, 2009 As a mother who homeschooled four children through high school, I was so impressed when I first saw this book that I purchased a copy although all my children are grown. The narrative is easy for children to read and gives them a firsthand account of WWII, but is also enjoyable for adults. The reader is able to identify with the main character's emotions while fighting and looking for and spending time with his brother. This book could easily be used in a study of WWII to cover history, geography, as well as Arts and Crafts. The drawings are simple yet artistically done. At times they are so realistic that you have the impression you are looking at a photograph.
