The Mommy Tree

Mom lit meets chick lit in The Mommy Tree, an entertaining debut by Margaret Graves. Disarmingly tender, this perfectly pitched novel proves to be as funny as it is wise as it delves into the lives of four very different mothers who meet under an oak tree as they wait for their children after school. There’s Missy who has recently become a stay at home mom after a rewarding career in the military—and for once, she feels like a total mess. There’s Gina, strong and brave; she juggles with the constant demands of motherhood against her physical limitations after being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and Ana, a driven immigrant who loathes her thickening mid-section and is willing to try anything to curve her appetite and her belly. Rounding off the motley crew is Tammy, a single mother who works as a waitress in a casino and insists on looking for love in all the wrong places. They prove that no one’s life is perfect, and that together their strength is immeasurable.

5Sweet Story  Jan 22, 2009
This sweet story makes you want to hug all of your friends and tell them you love them! These ladies teach each other the real meaning of friendship and that it's ok to be yourself. I will never look at Hershey Kisses the same again.....
I am absolutely looking forward to the next one about the Matcha Mamas!

5A book that draws you into it and makes you feel like you are a part of the story  Nov 02, 2008
The Mommy Tree
I found this book to be delightful. Margaret Graves is an amazing writer. She has captured the everyday life of the "Mommy Tree" ladies, mothers who appear to be different but in some ways are all the same. Their coming together because of their connection through meeting under a oak tree at their childrens school is insightful and a fun read. Margaret Graves is able to bring you deep inside these characters to touch those inner feelings all mothers have. The situations are so real I wonder if she was writing about me or my friends. I pray as mothers we can all feel like we too can reach out and be a part of the "Mommy Tree" experience. This book shows the blessing we have to be able to come together as moms and reach out to each other because of our common ground of motherhood. It's not only about where we are right now as moms, but where we can go.

5Fun, Fast Read for Busy Moms!  Sep 24, 2008
The Mommy Tree is a fun, fast read for busy moms. Even though the book is aimed at moms specifically, I think there is a little something in the book for everyone. I also liked how the author wrote at the end of the book that she is pledging a proceed from the sale of each book to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. I felt good about buying the book knowing I was also helping out a great charity. Great book!

5Funny, heart-warming and honest  Sep 24, 2008
The Mommy Tree was laugh-out-loud funny, heart-warming and honest. I couldn't put it down. The story was ripe with witty conversation and endearing characters. I enjoyed every minute. It's always fun to discover a new author. I hope Ms. Graves writes again soon.
