A Wonderful Legal Mystery! Jun 22, 2007
By Robin Wren Some mystery books disappoint me. This book did not. It kept me up late to finish and my only regret was that it came to an end. The characters have more depth than most in this genre and Saunders is at his best.
The story is an intricately plotted book with surprises, and twists that succeeded in keeping me guessing along the way. The writer pays close attention to the plot which ensures that the reader will have no loose ends at the conclusion of the story.
The plot starts with a long meeting between the 35-year-old attorney, Barry Foreman, and Susan Graham. Susan pleads her problem (her boss is trying to kill her) to Barry and from here the takes off.
I found that the end of the book was a high pace read and I never knew if things would work out in the end nicely or would it end in devastation.
If you are unfamiliar with Saunders then I recommend him highly to you.

Another Winner for Saunders Jun 13, 2007
By CommaMan
When it comes to my favorite authors Robert Saunders ranks right up there at the top. I have followed his writing from his first release of "Quarter of a Second" 7 or 8 years ago through his latest release "Gathering of Cans". It's wonderful to watch this author improve with each novel (not that any of his novels were real duds) as he travels along in his writing career. In my opinion, some authors are content to rest on their laurels (this seems to be the norm with a number of the well-known authors, especially those that take on a co-author).
The Monopoly Factor will keep you turning each page with anticipation. The pace is perfect and the relationship between Barry and Susan in the story is realistic, but not boring. The character development was superb and this is Mr. Saunders's strong point in his dynamic writing style. He keeps his characters real, fresh, and interesting by showing both their weaknesses and strengths. As usual he does a splendid piece of work in developing the close relationship between the main character Barry Foreman and his brother Noah. (if you decide to read the other novels by Mr. Saunders, you will find these two characters, popping up in the stories).
The chemistry between the two leads Barry and Susan is a warm, loving relationship. They get into just enough peril with the villain Carl Rudd and his henchman, Buzz Brunner, to make for a clever, mysterious plot. The dialog is ceaselessly realistic; sometimes warm, witty and even polite. He keeps the story clean without page after of foul language or long drawn out steamy sex scenes: just page after page that is honed to create a great mystery.
Maybe it's because Mr. Saunders takes a good 2 years to fine tune his characters and plots in his stories before he releases his next novel that I treasure wonderful stories. Anyway, he's really come along and I highly recommend this book.

A Terrific Story! Do NOT Overlook this book! Jun 08, 2007
By NturnLMDSIN In the novel The Monopoly Factor the reader will find Barry Foreman, the likable main character, with roots of growing up in sheer poverty during his formative years.
When Barry, the attorney meets his client Susan Graham. The story picks up the pace as Barry, and his brother Noah try everything in their power to stop Carl Rudd, the CEO of a large corporation who is determined to rule the world's satellite market from killing Susan, by the hands of Rudd's assassin, Buzz Brunner. Now, I am squarely in Barry's corner, cheering him on and the story had me on the edge of my seat, and kept me guessing 'til the very end.
This novel will keep you turning each page with anticipation.
I was constantly caught off guard by the twists and turns and when I finished the novel the only regret I had was that I didn't have another new novel by Robert L. Saunders to pick up and start reading!

An Intriguing Mystery with a Solid story Sep 20, 2007
By Jordan L. Wares I have just finished reading The Monopoly Factor and I was sad that it was over, so I turned it over to my husband to read. I really didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book, since I'm new to the author. I soon found that this was a "different" sort of mystery. There are no gruesome bodies falling down chapter after chapter. The murders are there but they make sense. There was no unrealistic macho man saving the day for the meek woman. The characters in this story had depth and they were developed in such a way that I couldn't help but feeling for them. Barry and Susan was just a wonderful jewel to read about and the relationship between Barry and his brother Noah was a nice piece of work to add to this legal mystery. There are separate scenarios taking place, and the author blended them seamlessly. The story is solid and Mr. Saunders didn't disappoint me at all and I'll surely check out his other books. I Highly recommend this book to all my friends and to all readers. Have a good read.

Ever Heard of Grammar? Jun 04, 2007
By Joan B. Hillo
"farmerjoan"
I actually googled the publisher of this book because I could not believe the number of spelling, punctuation and grammatical errors in this book; conjunctions were actually left out in several instances. It turns out that this is a "vanity press" publisher, where authors pay to have their books printed. I called the company, BookSurge Paperback, and they hung up on me.
I cannot understand 6 readers giving this an aggragate of 5 stars; the story itself is not bad, but the distractions of poor spelling and grammer actually forced me to put this book down several times just to get a break.
If you value the English language and correct rules of writing, read this at your own risk.
