5The Butterfly Child Breaks Free!  Nov 09, 2009
Dear Em_Gee,

I read your book this weekend. I took a break Friday night from my usual labors and grabbed your book off the shelf to stick my toe in its waters. I wasn't prepared and fell in completely! You had me right from the table of contents. Your titles were so intriguing and enticing I just knew I was in for a ride to be remembered and boy oh boy wasn't that the truth. Your third-person / first-person approach interspersed with your poems and songs was captivating. The stories themselves were mind blowing in their frankness and honesty. The whole work is a demonstration of the extremes of bipolar behavior and the complete absence of a proper safety net in our society. Your life on the edge provides a brutally honest look into the dichotomy of your bipolar world. Your story telling is at once; beautiful and horrific, uplifting and depressing, moral and immoral, brave and timid. Traveling with you throughout the world and your mind is a vividly, visual, experience. Scenes from your life keep playing out in my mind over and over again. There are so many like the time your Poppy fed you strawberries and sugar cookies, Woodstock '94, the lunch you had with your parents in the cafeteria and of course, your wonderful ending. It's hard to describe in words the impact of your words. I could see your poems/songs grow and develop as the story and time progresses. After finishing many of these and resuming the storyline I often felt as though I was still reading a poem your words were so lyrical. I wanted to yell at your parents for not protecting you more and yet I couldn't help but rejoice in the freedom they provided you and how they were always there when it really mattered. I cry for your mother. She was so strong. You have affected me profoundly with your book. I hope it is not your last. You need no longer seek fame. You are already there. You just need to wait for the rest of the world to catch up.

5Truth and Reality in a Manicly Depressed World  Oct 24, 2009
Ms. Gordone has written an incredible odyssey into a world that most of us will never be able to understand or even accept. Her insights and her descriptions of those insights go beyond simple narrative into lyrical flights based on her artistic endeavors in the music and poetic world. Anyone who has bipolar symptoms, anyone who lives with or has to deal with bipolar issues needs to read this book, not once but three or four times. Finally to all of us who enjoy music, love creative thoughts and tear up when a particular chord rings a bell in our minds, read it and find out how the creative process can be either the salvation of the soul or the rack on which we place our idols.
