If you like mysteries... May 03, 2011
By Toni Rakestraw I counted scarves in a video to win this book. Not sure what made me choose this particular book from the several that Donna was offering; perhaps it was the main character's name, Desdemona. I played Desdemona once in Othello, but I digress.
Desdemona Fortune is the daughter of author J. Caesar Fortune. She is his most beloved child, but she has suffered a great deal in her life. Both her mother and sister committed suicide, and she always felt like she was the one trying to hold things together. That can be a heavy burden for a child. When her father is murdered, her world turns upside down as she manages her younger sister, a private funeral and a public one for his adoring fans. But who killed him?
The author carefully reveals the facts to us through Desdemona's eyes. While the book is rather brief compared to others, all the mystery is there. Will you guess who the murderer is? I didn't, but then, I try not to. I like the surprise I feel when the murderer is revealed at the end of a mystery. I like to be taken along for the ride rather than cast myself as the detective.
I think anyone who enjoys murder mysteries will enjoy The Noon God. The characters are well-drawn and believable. The situation is unique, yet something that could happen to anyone. It is an easy read that is perfect to take along on a short trip or to enjoy at bedtime.

The Noon God Oct 15, 2011
By Barbara Kent I love mysteries with unexpected twists - and The Noon God does not disappoint. Donna Carrick has managed to pack a very large story into a neat, succinct 100+ page book. She has brought us into the turbulent relationships within the J. Ceasar Fortune family and quickly brings us to an unexpected conclusion.

Couldn't Put It Down! Nov 18, 2011
By f31lyric I started reading this at about 3:30 a.m., hoping to fall asleep with it, but I really could not put it down and stayed up all night until I had finished it. I can't remember when I have actually done that before. I'll be a fan forever. It was thought-provoking as well as very entertaining.

A dark novel of coming to terms with secrets and accepting the heavy mantle of responsibility Jan 06, 2007
By Midwest Book Review The Noon God is a dark novel about struggling to survive in the shadow of greatness - or presumed greatness. When Desdemona Fortune's father is found murdered inside the offices of the faculty of Art, she knows of a great many people who held a potentially lethal grudge against him - and as she struggles to cope with the fallout of a household poisoned by addiction and narcissism, Desdemona must accept that the father she loved inflicted terrible pain on those closest to him. Now thrust into the role of head of the formerly illustrious family, she must protect her surviving sister from the reach of a seeming immortal at any cost. A dark novel of coming to terms with secrets and accepting the heavy mantle of responsibility, The Noon God fascinates the reader with the brilliance of its stark choices and the hidden depths of its shadows.

Beautiful, quiet read May 25, 2011
By S. Mordhorst This story contains a mystery, but it's intertwined within a delicate portrait of a family's history. I enjoyed it very much.
