the book is a conscientious assault not only on all literary convention and 'rules-of-writing' but an assault on the reader by manipulating images and symbols to trigger repressed connections in the subconscious mind. it is an examination of identity as illusion. it ranges from absurdity and exalted silliness to graphic violence and the nightmarishly erotic. the use of nineteenth century purple prose is a sensual experience. a reader might not easily recognize, it is essentially a work of erotica-as well as a symbolic rape not only of all the socio-cultural paradigms but of the reader's consciousness as well.

[though recently published, "Paving Stones of Xanadu" was written largely before i was born, so the author claims. i found out about Hugh Knox as he was a fan of "document zippo" (my first work) & got in contact with me through Soft Skull Press when he heard of about "xero, turn-of-the-millenia 1999-2003."
His masterpiece "Queen of Snakes" is phenomenal, other titles like "Cult of Flesh" peaked my interest although he made me promise not to waste my time reading trash he wrote for easy money. i've had the opportunity & pleasure to co-exist with this author not only on the book shelves, but in the cyber realm of 'Live Journaling,' see ref.: www.livejournal.com/users/Laruoccobot & her friends list. ]

im also looking forward to reading "Master Dark" also recently printed, in a hurry to circulate before he dies -- but i know that's a cheap marketing ploy.
