The Essential Guide for Pender Islands in South British Columbia, Victoria and The San Juan Islands Dec 19, 2006
By Laura Sturaitis
"Arch Angelus Sturaitis"
Astonishingly expansive in its attention to details,"The Pender Islands Handbook" is incredibly useful, fun and informative, and with its scope, accuracy and specificity all presented in a very readable way, it provides THE single most essential and definitive guide to the region.
Such an amazing bounty of wonderful facts, with so many in-the-know nuggets of insights, it amuses and delights with its thoroughness. It belongs as an important possession both as a personal pocket and desk reference book for the avid traveler or even a welcome addition for the arm-chair geographer's library.
Beyond its abundant focus that finds not only all the relevant travel topics one expects to see highlighted in an exceptionally well-researched guide book, it also effortlessly organizes and offers outstanding expertise on related information spanning many diverse interests, specialized activities, hobbies and curiosities, in an all-encompassing and engaging way.
We especially loved the very helpful layout, key easy to read maps and illustrations, as well as the TONS of excellent contact, reference and follow-up material, showcased together with pertinent web links.
While many guidebooks take shortcuts on maps, we see in this guide: many well-designed maps that perfectly compliment and illuminate the text in a triumph of uniformity, clarity, aesthetics and information value.
We enthusiastically and highly recommend this book for its comprehensive and authentic descriptions to all aspects of discovering the enjoyment of visiting, living, and traveling in the area.
Author Richard Fox has thought of everything in this guidebook and his love and knowledge of the place clearly comes across on every page!
Only ubdolphin Sells the Latest 2009 Edition Oct 04, 2009
By Vortexman Please note that a completely updated Second Edition of this book was published in August 2009 but is not available via Amazon. Only independent seller ubdolphin sometimes sells the Second Edition via this listing. The other sellers are most likely selling the first edition of the book from 2006. The first edition is still worthwhile since most of the information on hiking, other recreational activities, history, and the natural environment are not all that different. Free updates to the first edition are available on the book's website, to a point. Also check the site for locations where the second edition is sold, and a helpful blog. The second edition is most useful to those who use the book regularly for specific information since a lot of the details have changed over the years. It also contains info on about 15 new parks, short trails, and ocean accesses, and has several new features.
