Gentle but still hard hitting Sep 05, 2011
By Maggie Wayne Hobbes' book is a well written conversation between you and the author. This book is easy to read while at the same time uses biblical evidence throughout. This is a book that not only will you wanting to read a second time but will be completed to, with your bible right beside you. Wayne explains the differences between legalism and grace in a way that is very understandable. As he walks you through his arguments, he will have you thinking of people in your life that "fit the bill". But it isn't long before you reach the Study Guide questions and your gaze is turned inward. The questions require you to confront the Pharisee within you too. You will not read this book without, after a painful process, strengthening your love relationship with God, making it better and more complete, a goal that will help us all.
WELL Worth reading! Mar 23, 2011
By DLEE The Pharisee Within Me is a profoundly, simple book. The author shares many personal examples and plenty of scriptural backing for his discussion on legalism and his personal journey into a fuller, more effective and meaningful Christian life. This book is theologically sound, spiritually practical, emotionally engaging and personally convicting!
Each chapter ends with a summary of his key points, questions for study and discussion, thoughts for further study and space to journal. I highly recommend this book for anyone who thinks a relationship with Christ is about following "rules" and anyone who knows it's not!
Must Read Aug 06, 2010
By Canuck1 Excellent, thorough, must read. No hobby horses just straight Biblical understanding. I learned from it and was caused to examine myself. Good use of a some self experiences but not overdone. Experience did not dictate results. Also great research on the history of the Pharisees. Taught me some new things. Very balanced as well. Thank you Wayne for sharing some of your self, your life and your research with us. Would recommend the book to Christian clergy and lay people alike.
