The Pound Cake Cook Book

The Pound Cake Cook Book is a collection of over 300 pound cake recipes gathered over many years, from many cooks in many states. It starts with the classic pound cake, made with one pound each of butter, sugar, flour and eggs, which first appeared in The Virginia Housewife or Methodical Cook, written by Mary Randolph in 1824. From there, let your imagination run wild. There are many varieties of plain pound cakes, but also cakes made with chocolate, brown sugar, nuts, spirits, spices and every imaginable fruit and vegetable. Low fat modifications create a healthier product. There’s even a section for quick and easy pound cakes made with prepared cake mixes. Recipes range from the basic to the bizarre, but all are delicious, with velvety textures and terrific tastes. Enjoy!

4A great specialty cookbook  Jan 15, 2009
I got this book for Christmas and have already made several recipes from it since I had places to go and people to feed! It's well organized, although lacks an index, a feature which would make the book easier to use (I've already written cake titles & page numbers for two things I made that are not specifically noted in the TOC). I've actually read the entire book and it's an amazingly well-rounded specialty book. My only criticism, besides having no index, is that you need to read a recipe carefully before getting started. There are several recipes with obvious errors (such as the flourless pound cake that includes direction that says 'mix in flour'). This would make a good gift for the cake baker in your life...I've loved mine!

5Great for Bakers, Good Reading for Others  Nov 21, 2008
A great cookbook.
Very well organized - but I am not surprised, since I know the author.
A variety of recipes, for bakers that really cook, to expand their selections.
A good read for those of us that just like to imagine that we will actually attempt baking.
Detailed instructions, with helpful comments.
