5How to Make Better Pricing Decisions  Dec 09, 2009
By Roland Renner
I thought I knew quite a bit about pricing. I have, after all, been responsible for pricing at times in my career. Reading this book I found out things about pricing that I didn't know. I won't tell you which they were but I know that almost everyone who takes the time to read "The Product Manager's Guide to Pricing" will have the same experience that I did.

There are very few people around whose job description is purely about pricing. Most of us approach pricing from the perspective of another role: sales, marketing, finance, maybe even product management. We think about pricing from the perspective of those roles and what incentives and risks have been in place in the jobs we have held.

Wanless leads us to explore all of the aspects of pricing and provides a framework for making pricing decisions in the context of a well thought out pricing strategy. He brings to life well known concepts such as price elasticity with real life examples and shows how use them in a practical way.

This book isn't magic. It doesn't have any secret formulas. But it will expand your mind about pricing and it will help you to organize and do the work that is needed to make better pricing decisions.

5The Product Manager's Guide to Pricing  Jul 21, 2010
By Larry Best
Optimal pricing decisions are difficult to implement for most companies and can "make or break" a product manager's career. Objectives are muddy, or not shared by all decision-makers, and emotional responses inhibit good judgment. Scientific measurement and predictions help to a large extent; however, the political nature of these decisions is typically left out of the models. Brian's book, "The Product Manager's Guide to Pricing", is a resource that should be in the hands of every product manager. Specific, practical and step-by-step instructions outlined in this guide are essential for navigating a pathway to greater profits. I was fortunate to work with Brian firsthand on many tough pricing issues, and now, many more product managers have access to his sound guidance.
