The Puzzle of Fascism: Could fascism arise in America or could it already be a Fascist State?

Those who do not know history are doomed to repeat it. Using the historical record of fascist regimes, Eric D. Williams draws hauntingly similar characteristics used by former fascist regimes currently unfolding in the United States. Williams establishes eight undisputable points arising from the current administration, and offers valid points to stop the slide towards fascism by taking back America by the people, for the people.

5Puzzles are rewarding, once you figure them out.  Mar 18, 2007

"Those who fail to learn the lessons of history are doomed to repeat them."---George Santayana

Not knowing much about Fascism, it was a real puzzle to me. Eric Williams not only made it simple to understand, but portrays the puzzle with similarities to the present day government of this United States and shows how history is being repeated. He fits the pieces together for you so that you can make the connection. It is important not to let history repeat itself, and Eric Williams gives us a tool for a better understanding.

3Not "exactly" what I was hoping for....  Jan 13, 2012

Well, as you probably have read on other reviews about books people got that started well then swung out over the water hazzard to die...This was one of those.

The idea of Fascism in America has recently caught my attention (as it has others, including Gerald Celente - the guru of TrendsJournal and somewhat celeberty host of what is coming in America). The theme is basically that- the blending of corperate interest with government interest = fascism in america. This is found to be true (after hearing Celente say that Musollini defined it for everyone in 1943-1944) and then researching it via the web.

Now for the book...it starts out with this theme in mind and then goes into Bush politics, gets alittle into the Michael Moore relm of "tounge and cheek" and then moves on into other interest that didn't stick close enough to the meat of what I was looking for.

If your looking for more straight accross, less opinion (or opinion-ish) material, I would say look into some other books (and there are plenty to look at just type in fascisim in America and 5 + pages will pop up on Amazon alone), then sort through the reviews...

Personally, I would just read: After America: Get Ready for Armageddon [Hardcover]

5We as a country have been a Fascist State for the past 20 + years.  Aug 06, 2006
By Paul "Paul"
I am enjoying reading "The Puzzle of Fascism." We as a country have been a Fascist State for the past 20 + years.
As the government gets bigger we lose more of our freedoms. As government increases in quauntity, our lives decrease in Quality.
The quality of our lives is decreasng due to taxation, regulations, loss of our basic freedoms, redistribution of wealth, and control of our lives by the 'few.'
Chapter 6 "The Obsession with National Security" and Chapter 7 "The Supremacy of the Military" are excellent and Eric hit the nail on the head with his analysis of these government groups.
In my 65 years I have seen many changes, most not for the best.
Excessive taxation, regulations and the gradual decline of the 'middle class' in this country. Another 20 years we will all be "serfs' of the government.
