The Remarkable Career of Frederic La Delle: From 1884 - 1917

Frederick Clifford Kirkpatrick (stage name, Frederic La Delle) had a remarkable career not only as a circus performer, magician and vaudeville performer but also as an author and mentor to many aspiring entertainers. His groundbreaking 60 page treatise "A Complete Illustrated Course of Instruction" How to Enter Vaudeville published in 1913 is on permanent display at the "Bob Hope Gallery of American Entertainment" exhibit at the Jefferson Building of the U. S. Library of Congress. Based upon his unpublished autobiography Memories of an Old Circus Trouper, historical research and interviews with those who knew him, his granddaughter Eleanor Swift has stitched together an engaging and fact filled biographical portrait of Frederic and his family's stage careers from 1884 through 1917. The book presents a historical view of the inner workings of the circus and vaudeville circuits seen through the eyes of a respected showman and successful purveyor of his unique curriculum of show business education.

4If you love the circus, magicians or vaudeville you'll be crazy about Frederic La Delle's story.  Nov 04, 2009
By Ransom Bernard
There's so much more to this book than the wonderful story of his life as related by his nonagenarian granddaughter. Although his entertainment career was remarkable, his self promotional talents and publishing successes were indeed world class for the time. The reproductions in this title of his major works; "All About Vaudeville", "How to Enter Vaudeville", La Delle's Self-Study Library" and Clever Card Tricks Anyone Can Do", are worth the selling price many times over. He was such a factor in his time that one of his original works is now on display at the "Bob Hope Gallery of American Entertainment" exhibit at the U. S. Library of Congress.

Anyone interested in the history of the circus, magic or vaudeville will find this an important and valuable addition to their library. Many biographies of an important entertainer's life such as this have been lost over time; Mr. and Mrs. Swift have succeeded in providing a valuable addition to the genre.
