The Sailor's Hornbook, or ABC Sep 11, 2004
By jack lewis This funny book should be of interest to sailors and other persons with maritime interests, as well as to those interested in words. The humor is dry and sometimes satirical; some of the definitions are really off the wall. The illustrations are good as is the light verse. The whole book is imaginative and facetious and the author draws from wide-ranging knowledge: sailing, oceanography, science, literature, poetry. The section on racing terminology is hilarious. There is a definition of Racing Rules ("which should be written clearly") which, on purpose, is totally and ridiculously incomprehensible. I hope O'Neal will write similar books on other sports.
