The Second Sphere

The Second Sphere tells the story of four young people from troubled backgrounds who find friendship and adventure in the mystical plane of Panaji. On a summer retreat for gifted teens in Vermont, Meredith, Garret, Owen and Isabel are suddenly and inexplicably thrust into a tangent universe. There, they must rely on one another, as well as on their newly-acquired abilities, to navigate the labyrinth of bizarre beasts and powerful enemies in order to find the way home. The Second Sphere is a Juvenile Fantasy that will enchant anyone who has ever wondered what it might be like to suddenly have the gift of White Magick, or be able to read others' thoughts, or have fierce, super-human strength, or perhaps move so stealthily as to be almost invisible to others.

5Second Sphere review  Apr 28, 2007
By Deborah Fugazzi
Every bit as good as "Harry Potter", and with great imagination, I couldn't put it down. Better than the "Chronicles of Narnia". I can't wait to see the movie. I could feel the changes each of the characters went through. I want more like this.

5Deserves five stars all the way!  Jul 11, 2007

I couldn't put this book down. I cant compare it to any books because its so different from all Potter, and Narnia books. Its great in its own beautiful way. Soon people will be saying the same thing about other new books "wow this book reminds me of the sphere books." I am dying for the next one. I am waiting for Harry Potter to be sent to my house...but I think I would be a little more excited if it were a new Sphere book.

4cool new series  May 15, 2007
By Jalissa B "JaJa"
I bought this book just because of the good feedback, and I'm so glad I did. I have read the Magic Treehouse books, all the Harry Potter books so far and most of the Chronicles of Narnia. I think the Second Sphere was just as good as Treehouse and Harry Potter and better then Narnia. I will definatly reserve a copy of the next book because I can't wait to see what happens next.

The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because the cover on the book I got was different from the picture. It's not important, but I did think it was weird.

5You won't be disappointed  May 15, 2007

This is a book I didn't want to put down. It's a cool story with great, unexpected plot turns. The different settings were written vividly and believably. I couldn't wait to find out how everything turned out for all the characters.

It has a lot of appeal for a preteen/teen audience which I'm not part of, but I really loved it, too.

I notice that it's been likened to the Harry Potter and Narnia series', and that's certainly a fair comparison, but I'd add that it's edgier and much more contemporary in its tone (and definitely more American). These kids aren't stuffy or upper-crust like the children in the Narnia books, and the action isn't limited to a single, claustrophobic setting like Hogwart's School of Witchcraft and Wizardry like the Potter series.

I was very happy with this purchase.

4Charming book  Apr 18, 2007
By A. Lathrop "Valentine"
This is a really fun story that reminds me a little bit of the Magic Treehouse series, but for a somewhat older age group. It's pretty much the same premise as most fantasy world stories, but that's not an impediment to enjoyment in any way. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes The Chronicles of Narnia or Harry Potter.
