The Secret Cove Sep 16, 2007
By Elisabeth H. Bantz

Rachel Solomon, a senior at Brookline High, is about to be forced into a frightening arranged marriage by her dictatorial father when her fresh-out-of-college teacher David Christianson sweeps the shy beauty off her feet and on to the Boston Courthouse for a quick wedding right after her graduation. His Beacon Hill/descended-from-presidents parents, and her Jewish father and aunt succeed in separating the couple only hours after the elopement, she to the hospital where her father's heart is failing, and he to a family crisis at their summer house on the Cape.
By the time David tracks Rachel down, her father's sister Hazel has convinced Rachel that David has had their marriage annulled so he can marry a socialite friend-of-the-family, and she sends him away without letting him explain, resigned to fulfill her father's dying wish. Despondent and bitter, David moves to the Midwest to lick his wounds. In time, Rachel also finds refuge in the Midwest with her Aunt Ruth and Uncle Saul Solomon, and in her grief she turns to God. Suddenly, six years later, their son's simple prayer changes everything.
Bantz's tale of impulsive love, painful separation, and bitter-sweet reunion is set in the late sixties in Boston and Illinois. Anyone who loves a good love story will love this story. And the threads of forgiveness throughout are inspiring. Book 2 of the 4-book Secrets of the Heart series.
